Hi Dave,

It seems to be working now? I don't actually know why it stopped this time but I suspect it was a temporary / caching thing due to the recent phpbb (forum software) upgrade.

Cheers,

Jools

Hmmmm...not for me.

I've had some trouble too. If you're in the middle of typing the name, options start to appear normally for me, and I can click on any of them and the whole process works.

But if I don't choose a species from the list while I type, and if I finish typing the name and press the enter button, then I get no results and an error.

Is that what's happening to you, @Dave Rinaldo?

Cheers, Eric

No options while typing and this after 'enter'.

Hmmm. The phrase "Generic_List" is the same response I receive when I hit the <Enter> key after typing a query.

I just visited this page for the first time today on this PC and tried typing in a new query (in this case I typed "Ancistrus"). As you experienced, I did not receive any real time options/matches popping up while I typed. So I hit <Enter> and received the "Generic_List" reply. THEN I retyped "Ancistrus" in the Quick Find window and this time, while I typed, now the real-time matches started appearing. And now that I think about it, I've had this experience before, in the last few days.

Perhaps the real-time matches will not appear until AFTER you've gone through the cycle of typing an query once and hitting the <Enter> key, then you retype the query and now get a real-time response... I'm no expert on this code, so I'm just proposing a thought/strategy for trouble shooting.

Good luck, programmers! :-)

Cheers, Eric

Yep! Re-type with "Generic_List" window open.

Same at AR.

Can you confirm the behaviour you're seeing? I can get the problem to happen if I click on the quickfind box and then just press return. Also if I type REALLY quickly and press return before the suggestions appear then I get the problem.

Is that consistent with what you guys are reporting?

Hi Jools, no need to type fast in the quickfind box the first time. I can type as slow as I want. I can leave the room and return, and no real-time matches start to appear unless I type <enter> once and get that error. Then if I repeat with a new search, it starts autopopulating immediately (like normal).

Hope that helps.

Cheers, Eric

I do not know if it will just confuse you more, but bizarrerie happen when this post is open, when you type with the home page open it does not happen... I tryed another post in cory et al section, and the Catfish Quickfind works just fine. It seems to apply whever logon or logoff.

Cheers,
Francois

For me, logging on/off is not necessary. But it resets and creates the problem every time I'm on this website, then leave it, then return in another browser window. It shouldn't be cookie related because I'm not deleting cookies and I'm asking the website to remember me when I log in the first time, so I don't need to log in again when I come back... But the quick find problem restarts.

Quick find work in all categories (CotM, Cat-elog, Shane's World, etc) except the Forum.

That could prove to be very useful, I change a few things this morning, but I don't think they'll fix it. Needs more investigation.

Oh shucks, you had my hopes up. I see the interface window looks a little different on my computer display (it used to form a narrow window when viewed inside a forum, but now it forms a full-length window within forum threads, as it does on front page)... but it's still not working from inside a forum thread (e.g., it doesn't work in this page).

Dave, if you're in this forum and you type the word "aeneus" (no quotes obviously) in the Catfish quick search box, do you get any results?

All I get is the message, "GENERIC_LIST" (see photo).

For what it's worth, I'm using Google Chrome full screen on a PC running Win 7.

Dang!

Truly strange. It doesn't work for me in Chrome, IE, or in FireFox.

Dave, what browser are you using and what operating system?

Thanks, Eric

OK I had to ask the wife!! Microsoft Edge 41 Windows 10

If you are on Windows 10 and using MS Edge, that's the newest browser from Microsoft, newer than Internet explorer (which Microsoft doesn't support any more). My computer is old with Win7, that's why I'm running MS IE instead of Edge. But my Chrome and FireFox browsers are up to date (for my OS) and should work. But they don't run the quick find any better than my IE.

Confirming that is doesn't work for me on the forum pages, but works on the other sections.

I think it works in the forum depending on if there is BB code in the post or not. Or something similar - anyway it' still half way broke. Really on my mind to fix this soon...

I've been looking more into this and it appears that the quick find results are not opening when you access the site from http://www.planetcatfish.com/... but if you use https://www.planetcatfish.com/... then it always works.

What I need to figure out is why the unsecure (http) protocol is being used...

Sorry to disappoint you Jools. But I'm using Https://www.PlanetCatfish.com and the quickfind doesn't work for me in the forums.

It does work for me on the main page and it does work for me on any cat-elog page.

Quickfind is working for me with the https address in the forums, but not with http.

I'm on Firefox 61.0.1.

OK, so can someone post a page with https:// in the address line where quickfind doesn't work from the get-go?
