Scientific Name Ancistrus brevifilis  Eigenmann, 1920

Type Locality Río Tiquirito at El Concejo, Venezuela.
Pronunciation an SISS truss
Etymology The name Ancistrus is derived from the Greek word agkistron, meaning hook, in reference to the interopercular odontodes that are hooked. This specific epithet literally means short (brevis=short) filaments (filum=filament) and refers to its short tentacles.

Size 120mm (4.7") SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Mature males and sometimes females have soft tentacles (bushy fleshy growths) on the snout - this is unique to the genus Ancistrus.

Overall light brown with a darker reticulated pattern over the body and fins. Upper and lower caudal fin tips white in all but the largest adults.
Sexing Typical for the genus with males possessing the so-called ''bushy nose''. Females also may have much smaller growths on the head but to a much lesser extent.

Distribution Known only from the Rio Tuy system northern Venezuela.

Other Parameters The water should be clear, neutral, and soft to medium hard with a fairly strong current.

Feeding Typical for the genus. Feed vegetables, algae wafers, and once a week frozen or live foods. This fish also loves to eat bamboo.
Furniture A sand substrate with rocks forming a few caves with driftwood and bamboo forming a false river bank.
Compatibility An ideal community fish.
Suggested Tankmates Appropriate with most community fish that aren't overly big or aggressive.
Breeding Typical for the genus. A 75 percent water change with cool R.O. or rain water can help along a shy pair.
