| Etymology | Greek, hemi = the half. While the Greek, agkistron = hook, is thought to be the root of the term ancistrus, hemiancistrus can be taken to mean that these species have a part (not exactly HALF) of the features of the genus Ancistrus, but not ALL of the features. |

| Identification | Very similar to L012 and L013 from the Rio Xingú. Elongate odontode on cheek 40-60. No dark spots on the ventral surface of head and body. Fins and lateral and dorsal plates of head and body with numerous dark dots. First anal-fin pterygiophore greatly expanded and exposed. Eyes large, dorsoventrally placed. Lips well-developed, occupying most of ventral surface; lower lip mostly covered with papillae, except for a smooth band near border of lips. Caudal fin I, 14, I; slightly concave, upper lobe shorter than lower lobe |
