Etymology From the greek hyalos, meaning transparent, and bagrus, the name of a catfish genus frequently used to form generic names. The specific epithet comes from the Latin ornatus, meaning decorated, in reference to the color pattern.

Identification Presence of serrae on distal three quarters of anterior edge of pectoral spine; body depth at anus 19.2-19.4% SL; black margin of dorsal fin present; eye diameter 19.7-22.7% HL; and length of adipose-fin base 15.6-15.7% SL.
Sexing Males have an elongate genital papilla.

Distribution Asia: Muar drainage in southern Malay Peninsula, Malaysia and Kapuas basin in western Borneo, Indonesia.

Feeding Readily feeds on live/frozen foods and smaller-sized prepared foods such as micropellets, but shows a preference for the former. User data.
Furniture They do best with plenty of shade (in the form of vegetation), so a heavily planted tank is the ideal setup for these fish.
Compatibility : A peaceful, diurnal shoaling species that should be kept in groups of four or more individuals.
