Etymology

From the Greek trogle, meaning hole, and glanis, meaning catfish. The specific epithet comes from J. T. Patterson, who collected the fish.

Size

90mm (3.5") SL

Show near, nearer or same sized spp.

Identification

No eyes; white or pink body; red mouth (from blood pigments). No jaw teeth; lips at corner of mouth thin; short lower jaw curved upwards and into mouth; snout overhangs mouth. Fused gill membranes with barely visible fold between them. Anal rays 16-17.

General Remarks

Listed as Vulnerable (D2) in the IUCN Red List.

Distribution

North America: known from 5 artesian wells penetrating San Antonio Pool of Edwards Aquifer in and near San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, USA. Found at a depth of 305-582 m.
