Etymology Greek, erethizo = that irritates + Greek, suffix oides = similar The species name comes from the Latin sicula, meaning dagger, in reference to the short pectoral spines of this species.

Identification Erethistoides sicula differs from both E. montana and E. pipri in having a

longer caudal peduncle and shorter pectoral spine.

Distribution India, northern West Bengal state. Mansai River drainage, itself a tributary of the Brahmaputra River.
