Scientific Name Corydoras cruziensis  Knaack, 2002
Common Name(s) Santa Cruz Cory
Type Locality Santa Cruz, Guarayos, Bolivia.
Pronunciation Kory DOOR ass - crew zee en siss
Etymology Cory = helmet, doras = skin. In this case it was incorrectly used to mean armour (cuirasse) instead of skin in allusion to the dual rows of plates that run along the flanks of this genus. The species is named after the Bolivian Departamento de Santa Cruz.

Size 50mm (2") SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Corydoras are identified by their twin rows of armour plates along the flanks and by having fewer than 10 dorsal fin rays. They are most commonly confused with the other genera in the sub-family, namely Brochis, Scleromystax and Aspidoras.

Similar in appearance to Corydoras punctatus, a species only found in Suriname. It differs slightly in colour pattern having fewer larger body spots, those along the juncture of dorsal and lateral scutes may form an irregular broken stripe.
Sexing Females are a little larger than males and have a heavier appearance, with rounded, fan shaped ventral fins compared to the slightly pointed fins of the male.
