| Scientific Name | Corydoras reticulatus Fraser-Brunner, 1938 |
| Common Name(s) | Network Cory |
| Type Locality | Amazon R. at Monte Alegre, 2°00'S, 54°04'W, Pará, Brazil. |
| Type Locality Map | |
| Pronunciation | Kory DOOR ass - reh TICK ewe LATT uss |
| Etymology | Cory = helmet, doras = skin. In this case it was incorrectly used to mean armour (cuirasse) instead of skin in allusion to the dual rows of plates that run along the flanks of this genus. This specific epithet refers to the netlike (reticulatus=netted, netlike) pattern on its body. |
Species Information | |
| Size | 60mm (2.4") SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp. |
| Identification | Corydoras are identified by their twin rows of armour plates along the flanks and by having fewer than 10 dorsal fin rays. They are most commonly confused with the other genera in the sub-family, namely Brochis, Scleromystax and Aspidoras. Similar to C. sodalis. C. reticulatus is distinguished by the blotch in the dorsal fin, which is not present in C. sodalis. |
| Sexing | Females grow larger and are more full-bodied, this is best observed from above the fish. Males will typically have more pointed as opposed to more rounded fin tips as they mature. |
Habitat Information | |
| Distribution | Widespread throughout the Amazon River basin. Amazon, Middle Amazon (Solimoes) Amazon, Lower Amazon (hover or click on these areas to show maps or find other species found there) Amazon, Upper Amazon (hover or click on these areas to show maps or find other species found there) |
| Temperature | 22.0-26.0°C or 71.6-78.8°F (Show others within this range) |
Husbandry Information | |
| Feeding | Will accept a wide range of commercial foods including tablets, granules and flakes. Live (or frozen) foods such as bloodworm, white worm, grindal worm, Daphnia and tubifex are readily accepted. |
| Furniture | Shade provided by overhanging rock work, arching bogwood, tall or floating plants are all that is required. Ideally substrate should be sand, but rounded gravel is an imperfect alternative. Do not keep over regular, not rounded gravel, this will damaged the fishes barbels when it tries to dig. |
| Breeding | Unreported. |
