| Scientific Name | Corydoras pantanalensis Knaack, 2001 |
| Common Name(s) | C005 |
| Type Locality | Bolivia: Northern Pantanal: Santa Cruz |
| Pronunciation | Kory DOOR ass - pant AN al EN siss |
| Etymology | Cory = helmet, doras = skin. In this case it was incorrectly used to mean armour (cuirasse) instead of skin in allusion to the dual rows of plates that run along the flanks of this genus. Named after its distribution area, the Pantanal. |
Species Information | |
| Size | 80mm (3.1") SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp. |
| Identification | Corydoras are identified by their twin rows of armour plates along the flanks and by having fewer than 10 dorsal fin rays. They are most commonly confused with the other genera in the sub-family, namely Brochis, Scleromystax and Aspidoras. Males and females look identical until maturity when only the males develop a strong pattern. Very similar to Corydoras geryi except that C. geryi has a transparent (clear) fins which are sometime patterned too. |
| Sexing | Mature males show a network pattern with brown, basic colouration always emerald green. Those without the network pattern are either immature or unsuited males or females. Mature females are larger and broader than these unadorned males. |

| Distribution | Bolivia: Pantanal Cussis (hover or click on these areas to show maps or find other species found there) Las Petas (hover or click on these areas to show maps or find other species found there) |
Husbandry Information | |
| Feeding | Will accept a wide range of commercial foods including tablets, granules and flakes. Live (or frozen) foods such as bloodworm, white worm, grindal worm, Daphnia and tubifex are readily accepted. |
| Furniture | Shade provided by overhanging rock work, arching bogwood, tall or floating plants are all that is required. Ideally substrate should be sand, but rounded gravel is an imperfect alternative. Do not keep over regular, not rounded gravel, this will damaged the fishes barbels when it tries to dig. |
| Breeding | Knaack, who collected and described the species, reports captive spawning. He states the fish are easy to breed and compares them to C. geryi (also easy to breed). At 15mm length the fry are brownish mottled. |
