Scientific Name Corydoras diphyes  Axenrot & Kullander, 2003
Common Name(s) None
Type Locality Paraguay: Departamento Caaguazo; Rio Parana drainage, small stream at Estancia Maria Belen 8 km from Colonel Patricio Colman 25 40' 13''N 55 05' 52''W
Pronunciation Kory DOOR ass - die fees
Etymology Cory = helmet, doras = skin. In this case it was incorrectly used to mean armour (cuirasse) instead of skin in allusion to the dual rows of plates that run along the flanks of this genus. Diphyes, from the greek word meaning double nature; in reference to the unique (?) variation in colour patterns expressed in this species (striped and spotted).

Size 50mm (2") SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Corydoras are identified by their twin rows of armour plates along the flanks and by having fewer than 10 dorsal fin rays. They are most commonly confused with the other genera in the sub-family, namely Brochis, Scleromystax and Aspidoras.
Sexing Females grow larger and are more full-bodied, this is best observed from above the fish. Males will typically have more pointed as opposed to more rounded fin tips as they mature.

Feeding Will accept a wide range of commercial foods including tablets, granules and flakes. Live (or frozen) foods such as bloodworm, white worm, grindal worm, Daphnia and tubifex are readily accepted.
Furniture Shade provided by overhanging rock work, arching bogwood, tall or floating plants are all that is required. Ideally substrate should be sand, but rounded gravel is an imperfect alternative. Do not keep over regular, not rounded gravel, this will damaged the fishes barbels when it tries to dig.
Breeding Has been bred. Breeds after 50% water change with water around 14°C.

Fry will turn upside down to eat newly hatched brine shrimp from the water surface. Very productive species - spawns almost weekly.", (6) Erod93, (7) Shaun (k: 5), (8) Mark Roesner, (9) MHS, (10) dkk (k: 25), who also notes: "Not too warm water. Young fish (larvae) might die when the temperature rises above 24°C. Easy to breed. Cold water changes and rich food after a period of warmer water & staple food will make them spawn for sure. They larvae are very inactive the first couple of days and are easy prey - even to dwarf shrimps! I left my group alone in a peaceful community tank and they doubled their group size within two years (12 --> 25).".
