Type Locality Río Torbes, 1 km above Táriba, 7°48'N, 72°10'W, Río Orinoco system, Venezuela.
Synonym(s) Pseudancistrus torbesensis
Pronunciation torr bez enn siss
Etymology (Greek)Kordyle = Club, swelling + (Greek) agkistron = hook, referring to its wide head. The specific epithet is after the Rio Torbes in which it was found.

Size 65mm or 2.6" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Cordylancistrus is greatly depressed anteriorly with a very wide head. Bristles on head completely cover the snout. Per the original description, Greyish above, paler below, with a blackish irregular band along mid sides that joined with four or five other saddles dorsally. First dorsal saddle under front of dorsal fin, second at rear of dorsal fin, third in front of adipose, fourth behind adipose, fifth at base of caudal rays. Usually three dark bars on pelvic fins and four across pectorals. Caudal with four or five dark bars on lower ray, tips of rays on upper caudal lobe pale.
Sexing Pectoral spines of mature males have strong odontodes on the upper surface.
