Re: Synodontis camelopardalis and soloni

I would say this fish is S. soloni. Firstly, there is a membrane at the base of the maxillary barbels which is present in soloni but not in carmelopardalis . The mandibular barbels look pretty much the same in both species. Secondly, the adipose fin appears to be relatively longer and not quite as ...

Re: African cats

I'm not sufficiently familiar with Parauchenoglanis species to offer an opinion, but the 2nd fish illustrated is seriously good-looking Thanks Carp37, I like that fish too. It's not possible to solve origin of these fishes, sorry. I know that it's maybe only way to solve right species but at least ...

Re: African cats

Thanks for your answer Sid. I will try to get better pics from Chrysichtys but it's not easy, it like silver arrow when I see it in tank. One of the fastest fishes that I have owned. P. pantherinus would be really nice catch but my LFS has way over 20cm long same species in his tank, is the maximum ...

African cats

Hi, I got these fishes from my LFS two weeks ago. He got some fishes under name Auchenoglanis occidentalis but none of these fishes are occidentalis. There was at least two Chrysichtys species and one Parauchenoglanis sp. Here is one of Chrysichtys sp. Last pic scale is little bit wrong, I couldn't ...

Re: Synodontis camelopardalis and soloni

In these forums i have debated previously the id of aterrimus - the fish pic in cat-e-log is, i believe now aterrimus but the fish in Sands CotW (which i saw in his shop) is clearly another species although we took it to be aterrimus at the time - that one is i believe an undescribed specie, a true...

Synodontis camelopardalis and soloni

I'm little bit confused after reading different sources about recognise S.camelopardalis and soloni. Here is my camelopardalis, at least I believe that it is, http://picasaweb.google.fi/jippo76/MonnitJaMuutPohjakalat/photo#5197339386887220194 In Seegers The Catfishes of Africa he doesn't seem reliab...

Re: Tank raised Synodontis decorus

I don't know much about the anatomy of catfish let a lone synodontis so I have no idea what you're referring me to look for... Only three Synodontis have branched maxillary(upper) barbels and one of these is decorus. So if fishes in your LFS has branched maxillary barbels it's possible that they ar...

Re: Tank raised Synodontis decorus

My LFS has received probably 200 1-1.5" juveniles from Taiwan, and I saw recently that Blue Grass c*****ds has small ones for sale at $4 usd each http://bluegrassaquatics.com/aquatics/catfish/synodontis-decorus.html Are they the real deal or hybrids? Personally I only like to keep pure pedigre...

I have the same feeling of pictures in Aqualog too, those are not always correct but there is many pictures from wild fishes so at least they are not h-fishes. Pictures are very good but genus is wrong. I have tried to solve if the pictures of S. victoriae is correct in Aqualog cause I think that i...

Few weeks ago there was both these species in their stocklist... but now clarias is out :( Maybe some day I'll ...

In first time I was thinking greshoffi too but now i'm not so sure anymore. Fishes are juvenile so it's hard to say nothing for sure. Humeral process is not sharp like greshoffi but remarkable was that humeral process was different with both fishes in picture. I have note that same thing that someti...

Looks like Synodontis waterloti but better picture would be great. Snout looks too long for it but angle of photo can make that difference. Look at waterloti pics from Cat-eLog.

I have some photos from my synos here http://picasaweb.google.fi/jippo76/Monn ... Pohjakalat

My biggest brichardi is 19,5-20cm long TL and second biggest is almost 19cm TL. It's quit easy to measure those very accurate when they lie against glass.

When I watched first picture it looks similar than S. courteti(shape of head, dorsal fin, colour), but in next pictures its something else, so coppered eyes with "normal" hybrid look I would say its hybrid too.

Re: S. Soloni (settling in problems)

Would a small power head down at the bottom of the tank be a good idea for water circulation? the tank has two fluval filters but there's not a whole lot of water movement at the bottom. thanks for the advice! That would be great, and more is better. Set it like it blows throgh front glass, then yo...

I have 12 brichardi in 630litres tank, sizes 10cm-20cm, biggest one is VERY big. In same tank there is several synos, plecos and boeseman's rainbowfishes. My brichardis are pretty active but I have heard many stories about shy brichardis. But with brichardi you have to have stream flow in your tank,...

I have one old lone soloni and he likes to hang vertical in plants too. It's very rare that I see him moving during lights on but it moves quit much at night time. He never comes to eat daytime but I feed him from hand so he's really not so scary, I just think that it's natural behavior to avoid bri...

Re: Picked up some 2 inch long possible Synodontis nigrita?

My opinion is that fish in this thread is not either waterloti or nigrita. Not waterloti because dorsal fin is too long and shape of fish is too high. I have 17 Synodontis cf. waterloti juvenile in my tank now and all those fishes looks pretty different than fish in this thread. There is many colora...
