One last thought, you could probably incorporate an overflow box(you can get them with a prefilter) as used on reeftanks that are not drilled out for plumbing, but again it would not be totally hidden. Usually once the lights are in place, unless someone knows to look for them, most people would not ...

Here is what I was talking about, this is on a 75 gal. Quite simple really, just the way I like it, http://img156.exs.cx/img156/3370/boo8vv.jpg Aquaclear 500 with a hole cut into the lid to fit the intake for a fluval 303, the outflow goes directly into the tank. I only use the foam inserts in the A...

The highlight for me was recently committing to a trip to Africa, I will be going to Lake Malawi(Stuart Grant's) and Lake Tanganyika (Toby Veall's) My last major trip was five years ago to Europe so I am really looking forward to this. I don't go until later in 2005 but It can't come fast enough. Re...

How old are these fish? I am not certain this is it but I will throw in another idea. In the Cat-eLog have a look at the first picture under S.camoensis, especially the fish on the right it has similar coloring on the forward part of it's body and a similar pattern even though the ones you are looki...

Just watch that the other fish you keep with it do not pick at the banjo's, even guppies, they pick at the barbels and at the skin especially if they have just been transfered from another tank as they can look like they are molting(not sure of the proper term for this) and the other fish will pick ...

Shell dwelling catfish

The ideal person would possibly have seen a few of these biotopes Would possibly have some scientific background Would also be a hobbyist As there is not a lot of recorded spawnings there could be some educated conjecture as to the different possible ways they may spawn. I dont think this would be e...

That's the thing about common names, they can be called one thing where you are and another somewhere else anyone can make up a name, stick to scientific names when possible or L-numbers(as not all L-numbers have been given a scientific name yet) Yes, it can be confusing but with a little time and p...

Cards are okay, I would get some, but my mother probably would not understand why she is getting a picture of a hairy catfish in the mail. The calendar idea is good with room for notes, I always keep one around to jot down what's going on, downside would be PC having to sell dated stock which can be...

S.ocellifer with cysts or blisters
Today I brought home a couple more S.ocellifer, they were at the LFS for a few months and are not in top shape. This particular one is 118 mm TL and has these cysts or blisters maybe, they seem to be only in the area pictured, his behaviour is no different than the others, and yes they are in quaran...

I am preparing for a trip to Africa and find this site helpful, It seems to have good explanations of most things we have to watch out for and covers most places on the globe http://www.cdc.gov/travel/index.htm but there is nothing more helpful than the experience of others who have already been there
