Wanted: female Rainbow Cichlid (Herotilapia)
It seems every one of our Rainbow Cichlids on display is male, we could do with one or more females to try to give them an outlet for their raging hormones.

Re: Curious about Trichomycterus distribution
I can think of others that have a similar distribution, Salminus is one genus that springs to mind, gymnocharacine and stevardine tetras, there's another characid genus that I can't quite recall.

Re: Foods for weird and wonderful (and I'm just strange) plecos!
Does anybody feed banana peel to their plecos? I ran a forum search and only found banana peels mentioned for worm colonies. Thanks, Eric In "normal" sized aquaria, they degrade too quickly and the sugars seem to encourage heavy bacterial growth in filters which can lead to clogging issue...

Re: Corydoras - who else?- eversi
I disagree with the assessment of the conservation status, that should be Data Deficient (DD). I don't believe it's reasonable to state that it's of Least Concern (LC) given what was already known about the type locality at the time of collection.

Re: In case you've never seen banjo catfish (Bunocephalus coracoideus) courtship on video
There has been hatching in all three vessels we set up. One was a clump of floating plants covered in eggs (including some Echinodorus plantlets with fibrous roots), one contained those eggs we'd removed individually from the plants at the bottom, the third contained all the substrate with eggs mixe...

Physical damage to embryo or mutation to the actinodin genes?
Here's the definition of actinodin as read out seemingly by the V'Ger entity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCv2BKfvvHk

"Royal" Plec, Whiptail etc.
Someone asked me why the Royal Plec/Panaque is named so, and I had to say I didn't know, and hadn't thought about it, it's been that for ever so I'd just accepted it. Same with Royal Whiptail, not a name often used in the UK but seen in books. Was it just added by exporters (as "Real" I gu...

Anyone played around with this stuff and a suitable resin for fixing it? Looks like it might be possible to create some interesting caves or riverbank features with it, might get around the bouyancy issues with many of the other products that people use for such projects.

Hmmm, 10-12,000 years ago Loch Ness was under a mile of ice. There are no catfish in Loch Ness, Wels, Plecs or otherwise. Occam's razor says it's a distorted wake. The monster hunter with the Wels theory is just scrabbling to justify all those wasted years when he could have been keeping real little...

I use a turkey baster and really give them a hammering, sucking them up and forcefully squirting them out, but sometimes I have ended up using a needle and scalpel blade under low magnification.

Re: Moving House & Huge fish collection
You can find extremely good equipment for handling large fish in angling stores, especially those that cater for carp and pike. Weigh slings, folding unhooking mats, rubber-meshed nets (fin spines don't tangle in them as easily) etc., ones that will do the job are not expensive, you could look for s...

Look in great condition Richard, must be easy to care for... One to avoid unless you have a huge aquarium is Sternopygus, easily top 1m in length, superb fish at that size but need aquaria around the 1000galls mark as a minimum. They do come in as youngsters and are very appealing at 6", but th...

Moved three males into a display tank couple of weeks ago, thought they'd be fairly shy and retiring but they're out at the front competing with the neons and bleeding blues, look great, the reflective spot on the abdomen is really glowing.

Great info, thanks. Once you see what they do it all seems rather obvious. If you get the chance at any point for detailed pictures of the adults side-by-side to clearly show sexual dimporphism it'd be most appreciated. Is this aquarium exposed to natural light?
