Re: Spotted Aspidoras id

So, with a little “insider knowledge” I would tentatively ID these as Aspidoras CW126. If you are interested in more, or would like to start fresh with correctly identified Aspidoras, please feel free to reach out. I keep CW126, Aspidoras raimundi, Aspidoras poecilus, Aspidoras fuscoguttatus, and al...

Re: New photo of Corydoras pavanelliae is not correctly ID'd.

Hey Jools, just my opinion, but this is C133. I have CW127 a very similar fish from the Tapajos basin. Within a single fish the background color and mask is quite variable depending on substrate, breeding condition, age and possibly even mood. Looking at this photo I feel the fish would fit well wit...

Really interested in the results if you can do that Eric, that would be super cool!!! C.sterbai - classic toxin producing Cory. Spook them in a small container and see if they lay on their side and produce a little toxin.

Re: Julii Corys dying within days

Just as a note, before I purchased my WC C.trilineatus from a reliable source (Jeff Michels of aquaticclarity.com) I attempted to purchase LFS "C.julii" which were indeed C.trilineatus 2 times. Both occasions the entire groups ended up dying within a few weeks. Their behavior before dying ...

Re: Mixing orange lasers and leopards?

That would be me - thanks for remembering! :) Yes, I don't feel that CW010 (orange lasers) which is an "aeneus type" and C.leopardus which is a "straight snouted" Corydoras will likely hybridize if kept in the same tank. Another important factor is group size. If you have groups ...

Re: Is this Corydoras axelrodi or C003?

My suggestion is to grow them out a bit and post pictures of the more mature fish. I have young C.axelrodi right now and they display this pattern ... somewhat. The dorsal fins of my juveniles are not quite as dark as the ones in your photo, but that could be due to being photgraphed on a darker sub...

Re: Very bummed. New bacterial infection going to wipe out my C. loretoensis

Next time hit them with a simultaneous treatment of kanamycin and Furan 2. Knocks out fin rot (which is bacterial) every time. I've done this on at least 5 occasions with 100% success rate. My C.wotroi even grew back her tail from what can only be described as a "nub". Come over and get my...

Re: identification Strange Pygmaeus

Looks like a baby "elegans type" Cory. Possibly C.napoensis or C126, but no promises on what kind it will turn out to be. Looks a bit like my C126 when I first got them as juveniles, and somewhat like the baby C.napoensis I raised for a friend, they are very similar fish as adults either w...

Re: Need help selecting small Cory

The "julii" your Petsmart gets are most likely Corydoras trilineatus - these would be fine as they don't get overly large and really won't bother small fish in your tank. They can look really nice if they are fed properly and kept in good water conditions as well. As bekateen stated Panda ...

One possibility is the little guy is getting too much protein- I can't get "novo baby" here in the US as far as I know, but if this is a really high protein food that could be the cause. I'd try to start some pre-soaked flake or small pieces of tetra tabimin sinking pellets to round out th...

Re: 3 Petco Corydoras ID

In my opinion the pale one is C.ambiacus, in the same (top post) picture the other fish is C.trilineatus, and the fish in the 2nd picture (top post) is C.delphax. Re: C. Panda. Have Stopped Spawning

Hi Biffa, I agree with Eric here in that you may have a large enough group now that eggs are getting eaten. I've had tanks of Corys where they breed once a week for a very long time, but if I leave fry in the tank while the adults don't eat the eggs the fry do. The adults may not consider the eggs a...

Re: Need help selecting small Cory

C.habrosus is fairly easy to find, somewhat easy to spawn, and does well in small tanks. My question to you is if you have a 75 gallon tank why are you looking for a "dwarf cory"? I would think something larger would be easier to find/see in a larger tank. A school of C.sterbai for example...

While researching Cope's 1872 papers that describe C.trilineatus, C.acutus, C.amphibelus, C.armatus, C.ambiacus and others I discovered that the Rio Ambiyacu is now known by the name "Rio Ampiyacu". For whatever reason Google does not show this river in their Google maps (street view) mode...

Just a matter of opinion here (I can't see the top of the fish in the picture so I can't say this with 100% certainty), but Karsten, is it possible the fish you believe to be CW008 could be C041? I have both of these sp. which are very similar, and to my eyes the line going across the top of the bod...

Re: Panda and melini cories

Hybridization can lead to sterile offspring(they may not be able to successfully mate). I don't know of any other issues, but there may be some. The real problem is that there is already such vast and amazing diversity in the Corydoras found in nature that creating tank raised hybrids creates furthe...

I kept somewhat large groups (7 C.melini and 8 C.panda) together for a while to grow out. I did not witness any spawning but when I pulled the C.panda out to put them in a separate tank to spawn I did find one baby C.panda. As far as I can tell there is no sign of any C.melini genes in this fish, bu...

More or less in that same tie, I came across an article on body size and heterozygoty in nature, it turned out the larger fish - juveniles - in a certain group were more heterozygote then the smaller ones. This being said - would it make sense with a limited population of a certain fish (i.e. chanc...
