Re: Dither fish for L046 and L260

I agree with twotank, it would be best for the zebras to have no other plecos in the tank. Any fish that takes up the same space or eats food really fast should be avoid. These fishes will most likely out compete the zebras for territory and food. Additionally, I don't know if "ditter" fis...

Re: TDS, how high is too high for breeding zebras?

Thanks Matsp! I'll start the RO brew and wait for a rainy day to do a water change. The fish seem to be in condition to breed. I have a female that looks berried up! But the males aren't really making anything happen. I may also need to change the direction of some caves bc water flows into the open...

Re: TDS, how high is too high for breeding zebras?

I would do 3 or 4 days of 50% changes with RO water, then leave them be for a week or so. I use 86 degrees for conditioning, then after the rainy RO season, I drop the tank temp to 82. It may take a couple cycles to get them to go, but it works nicely :). Barbie I can do that! :) How fast should I ...

Re: TDS, how high is too high for breeding zebras?

@ Barbie,

Thank you for the advice! :)

To answer your question. Yes, I have tested the tap water. It's 370ppm with ph between 7.8-8 depending on season.

So you suggest I do a big water change with RO and slowly change with tap to get TDS back up?

TDS, how high is too high for breeding zebras?

Hey guys,

I got a colony of zebras. Some are around 4 years old. I recently checked my TDS and it was sky high at 380ppm.

I'm doing 70% water change a week via tap water. My tap water has high TDS.

Is 380ppm to high for breeding? I do have a RODI unit.

I ask b/c I recently added a group of L46s.

They are all around 2.1-2.25'' and I was wondering what there age where...assuming all other variables are optimum.

Yeah, I'm referring to assassin snails.

I was wondering if you actually seen them eat eggs. But it appears that you did see this.

Where the eggs dead or viable?

assassin snails and pleco eggs?

Hey guys, Recently a local fish club member asked me whether my assassin snails would eat the eggs of plecos. I have breed plecos in the pass but always took the cave and male out to another tank. I have not notice assassin snails going after any eggs in the limited time I allow them to stay in the ...

That's what I thought! :)

I haven't moved a rock since I put them in there.

I have notice less fighting and they are even coming out when the lights are on if I feed them.

In your experience how long does it take for a group to really settle down?

how often to do head count?

Hey guys, I notice a few of you guys have sp. only tanks with a lot of caves and rock work. I have a colony of 14 zebras. I also have 16 caves and a lot of rock work. Naturally its very hard to get a complete head count. I've read a few threads with this topic in it. I was wondering, those that bree...

best size colony for breeding zebra pelcos?

I have a chance to add some more zebras to my current colony.

I currently have 9 in a 4 foot 75g.

Would 9 or 14 be a better ratio for breeding?

Re: How to do head counts without disruption

After two of my zebras disappeared I realized the importance of doing head counts. But with shy plecos like L260, what is the best way to do so without stressing out the fish due to peeking into every crevice and cave? My L260s are small juvies still but I don't want to dig through the tank one day...
