Keep in mind brown hoplos get quite a bit bigger than spotted. Spotted are probably better with small fish.

I did not realize they were going to dry out the river downstream. Not just fish, but all river life will be gone ... really depressing.

Seems really odd that someone would breed such a plain looking hybrid for retail.
But it also doesn't seems like it's caudovittata as the eye is not round but oval.

With the series of dams starting from Belo Monte to (unknown to me)? The river is flowing from south to north in the diagram above I assume? So everything up river will be impacted, as shown in flooded areas. Seems like there will be a dam downriver also from Belo Monte, as the area is also flooded.

Eyes are really small, but that might be distortion. Nigriventris? ... especially if it swims upside down.

My guess ... sort of like a leucistic nigriventris.

Those neosilurus and madtoms are too cool! And I was under the impression that madtoms just hide under a rock all day.

i therefore take it these animals are not likely to leave detatched mouthparts embedded in the fish when manually removed like say a sheep tick? A parasite like that would have to have hooks of some sort. Seems like no harm in treating it like a tick. That is, blowing out a lighted match and touchi...
