Re: Really Fat L201

Hi Marc. Thanks for the detailed response. I'll try capture it this weekend to get a proper pic but your comment about your female being so fat and getting stuck sounds similar to mine. It's really round, but not sure about the evenness as it's always hiding. I did manage to snap this attached pic t...

Really Fat L201

Hi guys, Firstly, apologies that I don't have a pic to accompany this post but I will try to get one this weekend. I have a colony of L201 that have been together for about 4/5 years now. About a year ago I noticed one of the colony was fatter than the rest. It was not long after I had finally start...

Re: L201 eggs, time to hatch?

Cool pic. Well I have no fry left in the cave. Not sure if they are somewhere in the tank or if they didn't make it. The last spawn attempt yielded no eggs so will have to just wait a while for the next round. Hopefully some youngsters just pop up around the tank in a while, but I have a feeling the...

Re: L201 eggs, time to hatch?

Ok cool. Yeah that is what I have been doing since the spawn, making sure to feed near the cave. He has a female in there now so hopefully the fry he did have still make it.

Re: Sometimes Fishkeeping Sucks

Damn I'm really sorry to hear this. Trying to think of what else could have caused it and was wondering, what if it wasn't contamination. Could it perhaps have been a big ph swing after the water change? What percent did you change and how quick did you add the water? If the starting ph in those 2 t...

Re: L201 eggs, time to hatch?

It usually takes 7-14 days an average for the fry to completely absorb yolk sack and 3 weeks for female to be able to spawn. So if you have one that has no yolk sack and wigglers there most likely was a spawn roughly a month before the wigglers currently in the cave. I think she must have spawned m...

Re: L201 eggs, time to hatch?

Quite possible. The parents took 10 days in total to spawn. First 2 nights she was in and then out the next day. Then from day 3 to 10 I didn't see here leave the cave. Perhaps the eggs were laid over the full 10 days and the most developed fry had 5 or so days head start?

Re: L201 eggs, time to hatch?

Managed to have a look inside now. I see one fry that has consumed it's yolk and then another that still has quite a long way to go. Does the father let out the babies one by one as they ready, or does he keep them all in until they all ready then kick them out in 1 go?

Re: L201 eggs, time to hatch?

Thanks guys. Today is day 5 so I guess I should expect them soon then. Father won't let me see a thing in that cave. He has guarded them very well. Has them right at the back and I hardly even see his tail poking out the cave. Wish I knew how many he has back there! I have a fry saver ready.

Re: L201 eggs, time to hatch?

Hi Eric, Thanks for the info. I did try reading the breeding reports in the L201 page but gave up after a while as all the ones I clicked on mentioned everything but time to hatch and time before the fry get kicked out. I had tried searching the forum too but had no luck, that was when I made this t...

Re: L201 eggs, time to hatch?

So I had a look in the cave yesterday and I thought all the eggs were gone as i couldn't see a single one. He was hiding one corner quite well and I had a little hope he had some fry in the corner but had accepted they were probably all gone. Had another look this evening and managed to spot a wrigg...

Re: L201 eggs, time to hatch?

Thanks! I just had a look now and things are still looking very much like just eggs. I didn't want to bother him too much so I could only see 2 of the eggs in the short peek thag I had. The one egg still looked yellow but the other seemed a mottled brown colour. So I assume that one is developing at...

L201 eggs, time to hatch?

Hi guys, So I've lurked on this site for a couple years now but haven't really posted much. I did post once asking for help to sex my L201s. Both, in my experience.
Are you blanching them at all? If blanched yes they break down fast, but if you just cut them raw and place that in I find it lasts quite well. I usually don't leave it in more than 24hrs though.

Barbie, what criteria did you use to sex them. Was it just the plumper body shape? What other characteristics can I use with L201? How hairy do the females get vs the makes?

Thanks for the opinions guys. This was the closest pic I could get, anything closer and my phone wouldn't focus. The fish is in QT at the moment so when I move it in a few weeks I'll use a different camera to get a closer pic. I did also feel it was a male though.

Re: Good news everybody!

The difference when it is the otherway around, and you get an expensive fish for cheap, is that no one has parted with extra cash. Sure, the seller could have sold it for more, but he didn't buy it for a large sum from his supplier and then sell it at a loss. No one has parted with extra money being...

Re: Good news everybody!

What people do expect is that sellers actually know how to ID the fish they are selling. Especially when the same seller has "misidentified" the exact same fish in the past. Surely you can see how that looks to be a scam whether it is or isn't? Also, now that you have once again been infor...

Re: Good news everybody!

I think you are justified in being upset for not receiving what you ordered. It is not the buyer's responsibility to ensure the seller buys from reputable suppliers. If @JuiceyFish got supplied duds that is his/her problem. If you ordered a car and when you went to pick it up it was the wrong model,...

Anyone able to give an opinion on this L201 of mine. It's about 6cm total length. Male or female? Too small to tell yet? Sorry if the pic is not clear enough, I took several but this was the best my phone could get.

Thanks!

Hi Nabobmob1, thanks for the info! Glad to hear they can spawn together. Was wondering if the presence of each other would put them off, or if they would distrupt each other. When I try I'll be sure to put plenty caves!

Spawning age / size

Hi guys, was wondering if anyone could help out with some info. I'm trying to find out at what age or size the following cats are mature enough to spawn at.
