Re: what tankmates for Cephalosilurus apurensis?

Apur-2.gif Apurensis-mirror-img.gif Baby-apurensis.gif Having kept c. fowleri, c. apurensis and several other pseudopimelodids I can offer some experiences. I raised a c. apurensis from 5" in length to over 20" in length in the span of about 2 years. Raised originally on live feeder goldf...

My experience was a bit different. I learned early on that they don't like their conspecifics, I started out with three at 2", at 4" two of them killed the third, at around 6" the dominant one killed the other. The remaining one was kept in a 135G tank with nothing but other cat speci...

My speciality is keeping pseudopimelodids and of them my fave is my large cephalosilirus fowleri. At 14", a huge beast that rules my biggest tank and exudes confidence, she knows she's big and bad and her tankmates are often reminded of who's in charge...

Looks like a Zungaro zungaro, a pimelodid species, formerly known as paulicea luetkeni. Having kept one I can say it's possibly the most agressive of all the pimelodids and will need to be kept alone and will grow past 4' in captivity but a magnificient fish nonetheless and well worth the rescue...

My megalodoris is a mere 3-4", acquired only a month ago. My supplier on the east coast, (East Coast Zoological Supply) imports Peruvian specimens to around 60cm. and larger, mentioning some coming in at 28" next week. I have seen photos of similar sized aquarium raised specimens as well s...

Perhaps I've been lucky? Having raised several pimelodid species including p. hemioliopteris, p. fasciatum, l. pictus, p. perunno, b. tigrinum and b. juruense, I always started them out on blackworms- feeding daily as juveniles, then guppies and after that feeder goldfish, as many as they want, a co...

Fossilis Pair..

I've kept a pair of fossilis for many years, perhaps a male and female as one is pale and the other much darker in color. They are in a 135 Gal tank with other catfish species and spend most of the time together as close companions, as said, like playful children....

Uncommon Giraffe Catfish

These two 5" auchenoglanis occidentalis sp. are unlike the common variety with the reticulated markings, the Aqualog book shows a similar variety they describe as auchenoglanis occidentalis-'barmoi'. I'm guessing this is probably a regional color/pattern variation rather than a separate species...

Rita Gogra!

Silurus, yes, after looking at r. gogra pics, you're absolutely right, it was found at LFS in a tank with a black lancer, (a clue?) said to be trade-in's from a hobbyist, both had tails eaten off by c*****ds, rescued it for $15. Great fish and a coincidence as I've recently become interested in Indi...

Mini-Goonch

I recently acquired a B. Bagarius last Dec. It arrived at 6" and is now at around 7-1/2". Very interesting fish and so far co-exists well with a variety of other catfish species from Asia, S.A. & Africa. All my fish seem to do well at 74F. This fish seems to display two moods, either s...

Likewise, I too gave in to temptation when I finally located one after wanting one for years, you see them in books and want one because they look so exotic. They're not all that common, never saw one in stores, found mine on a website with the initials R.W. Unfortunately you will need a very large ...

Hi everybody, love this website, I've been keeping catfish both tropical and domestic varieties since the '60's. Favorite species by family include pimelodidae, claridae, mochokidae and bagridae among others, fascinated by large species, raised many in the past but now inclined toward small to mediu...
