Contributing pictures...

I have a lovely L403 lady in my tank and made some nice pictures lately.

There aren't many pics of this species, so I'd like to contribute them to the gallery. How can I add them?

Re: Help: The unthinkable happend.

I think Daniels tip was really good:

I did 50% changes in the morning and in the evening. Otherwise I tried to keep the stress level to a minimum by not messing with the temporary tanks.

Oh, and I just fed them twice. Hungry fish, but little chance for the nitrite and ammonia to build up. :-)

Re: Help: The unthinkable happend.

Folks, it's time for an update: The new tank arrived. Bought from a local aquarium shop. Told him what happened, and he gave me used filter media :-) All fish survived and they are back in a proper tank now. Thank you all for your valuable tips. I'm preparing for a little nitrite peak while the tank...

Re: Help: The unthinkable happend.

Thanks for the comments, folks. So far no dead fish and water parameters of their temporary home are pretty good. The plecos are hiding in their caves all day and the corydoras mostly hide under the wood. They only come out in the morning. I bought a bottle of JBL Detoxol "instant detoxifier&qu...

Re: Help: The unthinkable happend.

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunatly I don't have a mature filter here. I have my old filter media in a plastic bag, but its out of the water since 24 hours now. Really unsure if it's a good idea to use the filter after such a while. I've read bad things. On the plus side: The plecos are in ...

Re: Weight distribution for heavy tanks..

Thanks for all the answers everyone.

I decided to go with the feet because my old tank had feets as well and I never had problems with that. However, the entire re-homing of my fish ended in a desaster as described here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=46816#p314099

Help: The unthinkable happend.

Long story short: I was re-homing my fish from an old 180 liter tank into a 350 liter Eldorado. For the day of re-homing I've moved the smaller fish into my 30 liter quarantine/hospital tank, and the other half (bristlenose and panaqolus) into a large plastic box that is sitting in the bath tube rig...

Weight distribution for heavy tanks..

Hi everyone. Just a quick question: I'm currently switching over my fish from a 180 liter to a 350 liter tank (about 90 gallons). That's the heaviest tank I've ever had, so I have a question regarding the weight: The floor cupboard "construction set" that came with the tank has eight plast...

Re: Clown plece

I have the same setup basically: Cories and Clown Plecos so I know about that situation. Clown Plecos are territorial. Some more, some less. My guess is, your pleco is currently trying to establish his territory and defend it. Your panda cories otoh aren't territorial, so they will enter your plecos...

Re: Meaning / origin / etymology of wels catfish name?

Found a reference about the german etymologie lexicon here: https://www.dwds.de/wb/Wels. Link is in german as well. Their take on the name is, that it has evolved from the whale. E.g. a wels is a whale that moves up the rivers. That makes a bit of sense because the catfish is among the biggest fresh...

Re: whats everyones favorite pleco?

I like all my plecos, but in my tank the L-403 Panaqolus sp. stands out. Such a friendly and fearless little guy. Likes to comes out to have a look what I'm doing whenever I put my hands into the tank. There is a local hobby breeder in my hometown who likely sells them to my LFS. That's how I got th...

Hi everyone. Seems like the story is not over. The same fish showed up this evening with comparable injury. Not as server as last time, but still. There was no spawning frenzy involved this time btw. I'm pretty certain that it will be gone tomorrow just as the last time, but has anyone has an idea w...

Re: My new fish - Spectracanthicus zuanoni

I always put some scratches on the courgette or cucumber using my fingernails before I put it into the tank. Don't know why, but the fish take less time to start feeding on it. Could be the smell or maybe they think that the food is good because they're not the first one to chew on it. :-) Works for...

Good news everyone: I saw her this morning while she was searching for a snack. Took a photo to identify her and it's 100% sure it's the same female. The red scars *are* gone. She still scratches herself every now and then but otherwise she's fine. Never thought fish can heal so quickly. Thanks ever...

Re: Corydoras Panda injured after spawning frenzy

So, little update: Either I have more females in the cory group than I thought and she is hiding somewhere, or it got significantly better overnight. I did a good feeding today to lurk the hungry cory-cats out and all my three adult females showed up for lunch. I'm 80% sure I saw her, just without t...

Corydoras Panda injured after spawning frenzy

Yesterday my whole group of Corydoras Panda got into spawning frenzy. They do this almost every day but usually only one of the females is involved. Yesterday the complete group went nuts. :d This morning I noticed an injury on one of my females. Guess the evening went a bit rougher than expected. S...

Fortunately I have holidays so I have plenty of time to can check the parameters regularly during t...

Panaqolus sp. (L403) Water temperature

I have a juvenile Panaqolus sp. (L403) in my tank. Since I'm about to change the heater in the tank I decided to optimize the tank temperature to find the sweet-spot for him and all his tank-mates. Unfortunately research on the preferred temperature of this species yield no results (or I'm not able ...

prevent corys from spawning

This may sound like an odd request but here we go: My group of corydoras panda has been on a spawning spree lately and this causes problems. They live in a 180 liter community tank together with a few friendly swimmers and a few larger catfish (panoqulous, bristlenose and a peckoltia compta). All wa...

Re: Make Sterbai Happy

Nice tank. I really like the layout. Regarding your Corys, how much do you feed them? In the picture you've posted I see a lot of food pallets on the floor. That looks waaay to much to me. Maybe they're just full and spend most of the day digesting? Corys can eat stupid amounts of food, but they don...

I'm not an expert, and your photos aren't great but:

To me it looks like a L134 Leopard Frog Pleco . It has the yellow/black colors and the typical vertical stripes over his face.

Re: Strange Panda Cory color change

Hi zurikitty13,

Thanks for the answer, and sorry for the late reply.

All pandas are still fine, some of them changed back to their brighter color when I added some new fish into the tank. So my guess right now is, that darker coloration it's actually a sign that they feel very well.

Strange Panda Cory color change

So during the last two days I noticed that all of my five Panda Corys have changed their appearance/color, and I'm a bit concerned. They look kind of dirty in some way, like they've worked all day in a coal-mine and are covered with black dust. Their bright side of the body was never particular clea...

Since none else is answering: Otocinclus catfish don't like stress, so if your cat is currently not felling well pulling him out his hide-out is exactly the thing not to do. Hi Eric, Based on your suggestion that my buddies are Panaqolus maccus I checked the database and found the L-448. From the description and the images it could very well be this species. Size would fit as well. Then on the other hand the Maccus seem to be hard to distinguish and I don't really care ...

Hi Eric, thanks a lot. Yes, the measurement includes the tail. Panaqolus maccus makes sense to me. I've read about their behaviour and how they look and it's all spot on. They have plenty of wood to chew on. I also tried vegetables but they don't seem to care much except that one of my buddies likes...
