Re: Otocinclus food preferences

It seems my otos have been eating the algae tabs and nori seaweed I put in the tank after the lights go out. Every morning they are plump and the food is missing. I will still try to supplement this with fresh veg, but was wondering if they need any protein from meat (ex: Shrimp, bloodworms)?

Re: Is this mystery pleco supposed to be here?

If you caught it anywhere in the US, it's invasive. Loricariids originate from freshwater habitats of Costa Rica, Panama, and tropical and subtropical South America.

Otocinclus food preferences

A few days ago I bought a nice school of 10 otocinclus for my 30 gallon tank which has been set up for quite some time. There was algae everywhere: on the rocks, wood, glass, etc. As expected the otos have been gorging on the algae. Every morning I see clusters of tiny poops which I assume is from t...

Otocinclus mura? ID

Is this an otocinclus mura? It looks different from my other otos. I've attached pictures of both of the otos. They were all mixed together at the LFS.

Re: Questions about Centromochlus perugiae behavior

I got some frozen bloodworms the other day and fed him last night. I think I saw him gobble some up. I fed again today but didn't see him come out.

Re: Questions about Centromochlus perugiae behavior

After I turned off all the lights I saw him come and swim around near the surface. I added some freeze dried plankton since it floats, but I couldn't tell if he was eating it. It's all gone this morning so I'll assume he ate some. After seeing him, I wonder if I should be worried for my marginatus p...

Re: Questions about Centromochlus perugiae behavior

He's found a nice spot in a piece of driftwood. I fed some brine shrimp and flakes, but didn't see him eat anything. Does he need some time to adjust? Also, are blood worms their favorite food usually?

Re: Shipping Corys

Looks like CW010. I agree that you'll pay much more than $10 at a LFS. Online, the Wetspot has them for $13. Have you looked at aquabid? Aquabid is where I saw the guy in Poland selling a group of CW010. I've asked a friend who manages a LFS to order me a group. He said he'll try so fingers crossed...

Questions about Centromochlus perugiae behavior

Recently bought one for my SA community tank. It's in a 30 gal with 1 apistogramma, 8 pencilfish, 10 red phantoms and a bunch of rummynoses. My first question is regarding feeding. I read that in nature they come out at night to eat insects from the surface. Is it necessary to try and replicate this...

Re: Shipping Corys

This fish was being sold as "Orange Laser Cory". Is it a CW010?

Does anyone know of any breeders in CT, near 06878? The town I live in is most filled with saltwater hobbyists.

MChambers wrote: 24 Jul 2017, 23:23 You ought to be able to get CW010 from a US source for far less than $45 a fish. Maybe $10 a fish?
So far no luck with that. The bigger LFS sells them for $45 each (as I previously said). A second, smaller store sells them for $30.

Re: Shipping Corys

Orange lasers. I can get them locally, but they're outrageously overpriced ($45 each). From Poland they'd cost about $10 including shipping.

Do you think it makes a difference if the fish are in breather bags?

Shipping Corys

I'm considering by a group of 6 Corys. The seller says they will travel about 8 days before arriving at my house. Assuming temperatures are not extreme, can Corys survive that long in transport? I live in the US and the fish are coming from Poland

Species only tank

Hi, I'm converting my 60 gal tank (4' x 1' x 2') into a Loricariidae species tank. I will keep only ONE individual (not pairs, trios, etc), with maybe some tetras for dithers. My water is naturally soft (6.5-7). I will be keeping this tank dimly lit, and have a power head to mimic the flowing water ...
