Tetra ammonia detox
Hi guys I was just wondering if any of you have ever used this product? http://www.tetra-fish.com/catalog/product.aspx?id=902 Friends of mine run a LFS and receive fish imports with high ammonia levels (as expected) every week. This often results in fish loss and they were wondering if this product ...

Hi I think the fact that the filter is higher may be the reason for the air in the canister. I always position the filter below the tank. I always figure that air rises so it just made it easier. Btw: my filters lack a priming mechanism, so perhaps yours is newer? I got my filter when they were firs...

Hi Marc Bad manners I know but I thought I'd answer the question asked to Ian. A far as my Ecco goes the filter is filled to the brim with water. If it isn't i'd assume that it hasn't been primed properly. When priming mine I fill the canister with water then seal up and attach the pipes. I then ope...

Any dirt that accumulates in the tank will just sit on top of the sand making it easy to remove. You will however need to disturb the sand in order to prevent gases building up. Just one other comment. I've used playpit sand before but found that it compacted together a lot. I've always found silica...

Well I agree with Marcs statement against using cold water to do changes. Your fish get the heat that keeps them alive from the water they swim in and if this fluctuates rapidly it causes the fish undue stress, which in turn lowers the immune system leaving the fish open to disease. I donâ??t see th...

Hi The reason I asked before about the water changes is that if you NEED to change the water that regularly then you are obviously feeding the tank to much. How much are they fed each day and how many times a day? it could be that you are overfeeding them which in turn will affect the water quality....

Hi A couple of questons for you. Firstly what have you been treating the finrot with? Secondly when you change 40% a week is that done in one water change? If so why do you feel you need to change so much a week? Not that it is necessarily a bad thing to change the water frequently. Thirdly are you ...

Hi The gap may indeed cause the glass in the centre of the tank to crack. I've seen and heard many horror stories of tanks cracking due to stands not providing enough support. Has the tank got a floating base? If not then a good inch thick bed of polystyrene should allow the tank to settle and provi...

Hi I can't help you on the exact growth rate of the tigrinius but i have a Leiarius longibarbis and it grew around 6 inches in about 8-10 months. The tank mine is housed in is a 125g, a 5x2x2, but will require a larger tank reasonably soon. Whatever you do make sure your going to be able to give it ...

Hi Firstly the Nitrate test is new and the nitrite is just a couple of months old. I went out today and got the new Nitrate test to check that it was the proper reading. Also yes the Nitrite only shows the minimum reading of <0.3mg/l, it's a tetra test. On the feeding Golfish front it is something i...

Hi Mark Do you mean by your comment that you expect the treatment to work? I've been looking up on the disease that it can be due to poor water quality and poor diet both things that i can't see being the case. I know that it can seem a case of denial that my care of the fish isn't perfect but i fee...

Hole in the Head
Hello Everyone I wonder if anyone can help. 3 days ago i noticed that the larger of my 2 oscars had what looked like the start of hole in the head. I moved it immediately to a 40gal hospital tank and started treating it with waterlife sterazin and octazin. I've also moved the smaller oscar into this...
Hi Lisa Congratulations on the new â??aquaâ??sitions! (Sorry) I have a Juwel Trigon 190 and although the tank looks great I have found that the filtration is inefficient. Because of this Iâ??ve had to add an Eheim Aquaball filter to the tank. The Aquaball is a filter I canâ??t praise enough. It is t...

Hi Paul I got one of the Hagen CO2 units about two months ago and have found it to work fairly well. Having said this it has improved my plants slightly in the fact that I have less dea...

Another method was to used a Hagen product called a skimmer for my external filter. As for what caused the build up of scum i have no idea ...

IMO it looks a little skimpy, sand might make a nice addition, just be sure to get the proper kind (called play sand or river sand in North America) to prevent barbel damage :D Sand is a lot easier to clean than gravel as all of the dirt sits on top. This means that the tank has to be cleaned out m...
