Re: Cephalosilurus ID
No. This is from elsewhere. This was sold as apurensis. I think it's apurensis, we know it's deffo not albomarginatus or fowleri. However another keeper of apurensis suggested this is not apurensis which I believe it to be, hence me seeking other opinions. Hope that makes sense. The two fish from Pe...

Cephalosilurus ID
Anyone fancy id'ing this Cephalosilurus? This one was sold as apurensis, however I'm being told by an apurensis owner that it is nigricaudus. You're thoughts please, and thanks in advance. https://image.ibb.co/ewhdL6/23782028_1991461244429321_923315534_n.jpg https://image.ibb.co/ntK3nm/23805804_1991...

Re: Cephalosilurus fowleri
I doubt anyone will be surprised to find out that they are in fact Cephalosilurus apurensis.
Very nice looking fish though.

Re: Cephalosilurus fowleri
If they're not on the undernoted list, they're effectively banned. https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/ibama_positive_list.php Jools Thanks again Jools. That's a very interesting read. I should take delivery tomorrow morning so we'll see what we get. Just putting together a Corydoras order as I ty...

Re: Cephalosilurus fowleri
Thanks again for the additional info.
I can't find anything suggesting that fowleri are banned from export in Brazil. Can anyone else?

Re: Cephalosilurus fowleri
Thanks for the feedback. Having done some research before placing the order I realised there was a very real chance of it being apurensis. I also realise that fowleri come from one river system in Brazil, but I was under the impression that apurensis come from Venezuela and not Peru. My info here ca...

Cephalosilurus fowleri
So, I have two Cephalosilurus fowleri enroute from Peru. They should be with me on wednesday. Unfortunately I wasn't able to obtain photographs from the Peruvian supplier and I have read that the fish exported are often C. apurensis and not true fowleri. I'll posts pics when they arrive on here but ...

Re: Hyalobagrus flavus
I just dislike snails. :) Today I found the airpump floating in the tank. It seems my four year old thought it was an internal power filter. Switching everything off at the mains and just being thankful he hadn't had an accident I started to strip down the tank to discover the heater was dead as was...

Re: Hyalobagrus flavus
Well Amazon Frogbit has been in there a while and is now growing well. The Echinodorus tennellus is still doing OK despite that it's losing light with the floating plant. Snails have been spotted so I've just treated with gastropex. As for the fish, well Shane was correct, you rarely see them! I str...

Re: Hyalobagrus flavus
When considering a grass like species I did consider Sagittaria. I have Amazon frogbit on order so I guess it's all down to how much light that will block out. I order 5 to 8 boxes of aquatic plants weekly from the Far East for an aquatic business I own so changing and adding species is no problem a...

Re: Hyalobagrus flavus
Well I'll scape it properly later, but after reading as much info as I can I thought I'd try and mimic the grass like conditions they're found in so settled on fifty Echinodorus tennellus as it should do OK in the lower light conditions it will experience when I add Limnobium laevigatum next week wh...

Re: Hyalobagrus flavus
Thanks for the reply Shane it's very much appreciated. Can I ask, do you think your fish may have spawned? I assume they don't display the green eggs all the time?
Do you have any thoughts about what their spawning trigger may be?

Hyalobagrus flavus
Hi all I'm about to set up a tank for a group of 10 of these fish. I've just spent the last few hours reading as much info as I can on them. I appreciate that many have tried to breed them but without success so far. My plans are a 24" x 15" x 12" tank with gentle sponge filtration. I...
