We use a small length of copper pipe, works better than anything else.

Just keep an eye on your fish and it can take anything from 24 to 48 hours to work.

Dianema urostriatum showing signs of spawning

Hi guys My Dianema urostriatums have started showing signs of spawning. They were sharing a tank with a breeding group of Callichthys and to my amazement i saw a male flagtail go upside down and start bubble under the lid. Andy has now removed the Callichthys but i think hes upset the flagtails caus...

Re: What a sex ratio in Scleromystax barbatus?

we have a group of about 10-15 in one tank, not sure as Andy has moved them around and added a few more, i will have to check them, i think there is more males than female. They have been in their new tank now for a week and have gone and spawned the other day in three different areas of the tank. T...

Scleromystax prionotos spawned

We got some Scleromystax Prionotos a few years ago and kept them with some Barbatus we are growing on for breeding stock, Andy had even forgot we had them. With Andy moving fish tanks around in the main fish house, he put the Prionotos in a tank full of guppies in the new section of fish tanks, in w...

When you put the eggs in the rearing tank only have water about 6" deep. Thanks for the info but just wondered why the water needs to be so shallow. Also how often do you water change with newly-hatched fry? Cheers Matt so that the fry dont have to swim as far to get air, ones the fry get some...

Re: M. Thoracata breeding query

I dont think multiple spawnings are common, its only happened twice in all the 20 years ive been a breeder, but saying that we do now limit the amount of females in the tank to 3. The F1 females are only small at the moment so they are not laying many eggs, the last spawning 23/8/10 there was only a...

we remove the lid when the egg start to go brown, if you look at them you can see the baby fry inside the egg but if i was you i would remove them when you see them, that way you can watch the eggs more closer and see them developing, then as you breed more and become more confidant you can leave th...
