This is probably going to sound a bit soppy. I love my pepper cories! They are small (I don't have space for big tank now) and they are very active during the day (unlike other cats that I have had). They love to eat and are always on the look out for a tasty morsel. They like cold weather (like me)...

A very interesting point. I would say that stress would definitely be the trigger.

How would one be able to find out if a cory poisoned itself like this?

I have also encountered the "mystery disease", I forgot to mention that I saved 4 bronze cories from a LFS in December.

All 4 looked like they didn't have long to live. Only one of them developed this and I removed him from the tank and medicated him. Unfortunately I could not save him.

Thanks for the info!

Corydoras disease survey

Hi everyone, I am busy writing a book on my favourite fish (Pepper cories or Corydoras paleatus). I am a bit stuck with the diseases section as I have only had to deal with fin rot (this only happened to one fish, and only once). I have read that catfish are more resilient towards disease than some ...

One of my pepper cory females frequents the front left corner of the tank and spends minutes looking straight up at her reflection on the surface of the water.

If you take good care of them they are bound to spawn for you. Nutrifin Max Shrimp pellets makes my cories spawn more often.

My pepper cories don't always stick together either. I don't think that, that is a problem.

Post a photo, I found that my cories barbels only really started growing as they matured sexually.

My pepper cories never used to eat their eggs, not until I started leaving the adults with the eggs that is ... When my cories spawn I remove the eggs from the adult tank and place them in a separate "hatching" tank. If you do this on the same day they laid the eggs, the eggs are still sof...

Hi there, if possible get one male and 2 females. I have heard that males will behave aggressively towards each other. A nice school of tetras should look very nice with them. There are many to choose from, my fav tetras are red-eyes and glow light tetras. Make sure when you buy your plecos that the...

Electric catfish are blacklisted in my country, so we can't keep them here.

I have a group of pepper cories, and they have spawned 3 times now already. I can't call myself an expert - but can tell you what I did. I kept them in a 2 ft tank (they are busy enjoying their 3 ft now) with gravel that looks like course salt. I did a 10% water change every 2 or 3 days (you can do ...

A possibility is to have a sponge filter in each tank and run it from an air pump on a UPS. This way each tank has some level of filtration. My 600 VA UPS can provide 10 watts for about 6 hours. My 6 Watt air pump is powerful enough to power a few sponge filters. (I don't have many tanks, but we som...

I had a similar catfish, but he outgrew my tank. The fish trippled in size in 4 months.

They like having plants in the tank, mine liked to hide in them.

At this point in time I am not planning on keeping other fish with them.

If I keep fish with them it will probably be something like black widows or danios.

I want to get the number right, as to not overcrowd the tank - but also not having too few of each species.

I was wondering about adding something like pictus to the tank as well.

But would rather like to find out before I chance it.

I am going to put my cories in the 3 ft tank for now and continue doing research.
