Sorry to hear about your pandas. I went through losing them like that, too. Then I stopped losing any until I went away for 2 weeks on vacation. I did everything I could to prep the tank but the automatic feeders (Eheim brand) malfunctioned--not dispensing any food to my goldfish tank and overfeedin...

The exchange went smoothly. It took a long time only because it took me awhile to get a return shipping box the right size--hubby kept forgetting to bring one home from work.

I totally replaced the hoses and scrubbed out all of the fittings. I didn't find any blockages, just a thick buildup of gunk--algae I think. I also made the hoses a wee bit shorter. Whatever, the changes have had the desired results and the Ecco is working beautifully. I also installed the spraybar ...

Can you get your nitrates a bit lower? Mine get a bit twitchy when nitrates climb much over 10. Is your substrate pretty clean? You may need to do a partial gravel vac--don't do the whole tank all at once though because stirring up the mulm too much makes them twitchy, too. Too many organic pollutan...

Oh no, I'm so sorry for your additional losses. I still have my 3 pandas despite having put them through a complete substrate change. I switched from plain gravel to a mix of EcoComplete and fine gravel of the same type but different color as what I was using prior. The sterba and peppered cories li...

Ahhh....time to examine the hoses, then. The filter pads are cleaned or replaced on a regular basis. Judging from all the microscopic but gloppy goop in the impeller chamber, the hoses are probably a little clogged with the same by now, too.

HF, don't know if you're still following this thread, but just wanted to say that I was able to set up one of the 2215's and it is AWESOME. There's a learning curve to setting up and operating the Classic series, but once you set up one and learn the best way to prime it, the rest are easy. The 2215...

Do you by any chance have any significant batches of mushrooms growing on or near your property outdoors? We have one cluster of them that pops up every time we get a good few days of rain this time of year and it's my understanding the spores will look fuzzy webby white if they get growing on indoo...

The canister is pretty roughed up, especially compared to my 2213 canister that got dropped and has since been used to store my siphon and gets pulled in and out of storage. Despite that treatment it barely has any scratches on it so I have to wonder what the new filter was put through to make it lo...

Wow, that is WEIRD, all right. If you ever find out what that white stuff is, or even if you don't, please keep me posted on your cory. What filter media dusts are dangerous and how?

Tonight when setting up the "good" new 2215 I just received, I was rinsing the sintered glass Eheim Ehfisubstrat Pro media--in my kitchen sink since my husband was using the laundry tub. I've rinsed this stuff before and not gotten dust cloud in the air, but this time a dust cloud did poof...

Should I return "pre-owned" filter?

I had just bought two Eheim 2215's from an online vendor with a good (and earned reputation)--it's NOT DrsFosterSmith, though--I ended up ordering from a closer location because I wanted other stuff only this merchant had. One of the 2215's was definitely new, never been opened. The other one was mi...

Yeah, in small quarters the danios would really bother your cories. Cories are sweet and take so much in stride, it would be a shame to subject them to the pushiness of Danios. I've got my tank decorated to where most of the time the cories have places they can go to get away from the stripey barbar...

I wanted to add that your tank looks small. My profile is not up to date, but right now the betta is in the 5 gallon tank that the goldfish was in. Sunlight DOES seem to help a LOT. This morning the betta's fin edges looked kind of melted and gooey. Do you have a bucket or hospital tank that you can isolate him in? Most meds or salts will either bother any plants you have, or your biological filter, or both. I think you probably have nothing to lose by medicating at this point. Fin rot is a perplexing disease. My daughter's betta just came down...
