Re: Bifasciatus or something totally new?
This is probably a new species. The vast distance between the type locality of C. bifasciatus and Leticia is one thing but the actual pattern is different, in C. bifasciatus the lower band runs along the intersection of the body scutes. Your fish shows the typical C. parallelus pattern, but with a s...

A quick update for those that are hovering over their decision to attend the CSG's 2015 convention, as of mid day today 5th December we have already taken up just over a third or our room allocation, and would advise any potential guests from outside the UK to book their place as soon as possible to...

The booking forms and menu choices are now on line at http://www.catfishstudygroup.org/core/convention_2015.htm Early indications are showing that we are heading for a record attendance, which means we will in all probability use up all of our room allocation. We can house 300 delegates but the hote...

Re: "Corydoras venezuelanus" Black Cory's"
There is one feature that I pointed out earlier in the thread, which is that the fish we are calling C. venezuelanus and the LLanos fish both have grey caudal fins and the C. schultzii and its black strain have reddish caudal fins. I think a chat over a couple of beers at the (AACC) Cat Con should s...

Re: corydoras and gravel/sand
Just my 2 penny worth and bringing the topic back to the title "corydoras & gravel/sand" There are many natural area where Corys are found over gravel, but this is not rough like road chip pings but smooth pebble like. The size can and does vary from 1 to 2 millimetres to large boulder...

Re: "Corydoras venezuelanus" Black Cory's"
Shane, Jools, To pin another CW number on yet another "aeneus" type I have to be 100% certain that all the evidence is accurate especially when the the division is with fish from what is globally the same region. There are a number of 'aeneus' types already listed in my 'aeneus' group page...

Re: "Corydoras venezuelanus" Black Cory's"
Jools, We seen to have introduced C. scwartzi into the mix, I think the (Corydoras venezuelas sp. "schwarz") shop listing is a typo by the store keeper. we are talking C. sp schultzei, which is the parent species of the commercially "Black" Cory. I would like to add the C. sp. ae...

Re: "Corydoras venezuelanus" Black Cory's"
The dark one I titled C. venezuelanus Black is one of the images you sent me for comparison and I assumed it was one of the fish you or Shane originally collected. It looks to be identical to the Llanos fish. The ones captioned C. venezuelanus are f1's from my original wild fish bred in January 1999...

Re: Rio Negro/Upper Rio Negro Corys in Leaf Litter?
There are many many Corys that live over a layer of leaf litter. This will include any of the fish from the tributaries of the Rio Negro. Generally if the water is moving relatively slowly then there is likely to be leaf litter or other organic material. It is the tannins from such organic material ...

Re: "Corydoras venezuelanus" Black Cory's"
I have been looking into this problem for quite a while and for what they are worth, here are my thoughts. Firstly I am one along with other Cory specialists consider that both C. schultzei and C. venezuelanus to be valid species, which is what they were first described as, it was in the late 70's e...

Correct genus names
This is just a little niggle of mine.
More and more people are referring to their Corydoras, and Aspidoras as Corydora and Aspidora.
Corydoras and Aspidoras is the same spelling for a single specimen as it is for a hundred.

There are only 2 lasers, "Green" CW009 and "Gold" CW010, The other one that is referred to as a laser, CW014/CW023 (Same species), is not a laser but referred to as Red/Orange "Stripe".

Re: Corydorus.Sterbai in Discus tank
Algae wafers are not suitable for Corys, they are omnivores and require a variety of small foods.
Feeding beef heart to the Discus is fine but like algae not good for Corys.

Re: Corydorus.Sterbai in Discus tank
C. sterbai, would be a good choice regarding temperature, but the one problem that can occur is with the diet. Basically the high protein foods made for Discus are far too protein rich for Corys, and will eventually cause problems. The only way to combat this is to have a good supply of live foods l...

They actually look more like juvenile C. delfax. Like many of the larger spotted species the pattern changes as the fish grow and become full mature adults.

I don't think they are C62, the black is confined to the dorsal second and third soft ray. Your fish has the black in mre rays and it extends into the body. I still stick with C151

This is a difficult one, it is close to C126 and CW029,could also be something new, but without the catch location it will be difficult to be certain what it is.

I am not sure where the recommended temperatures have been sourced for the cat-elog but I think most are just averages and not necessarily the best, as is in this case. To breed them I had to push the temperature up over 80ºF.

Re: Sick C082
C. loxozonas, I would say it is a water reaction. This species is best kept a little warmer at around 78 - 80ºF and a little softer. Nitrite can cause this, and it will be like a delayed action, it can be short time exposure that starts this mucus release and the fact that you have made a lot of wat...
