Re: Best catfish for my tank? Help please
Well a green terror is a little less aggressive than your average cichlid but that said ... its still a cichlid. I would suggest looking at the armored cats Callichthyidea: Megalechis or Hoplosternum. my 2¢

Re: S. Aterimus or S. Schoutedeni?
I agree with Richard B, S. shoutedeni get a bit big for a 1ft. wide tank. And even though they are pretty and keep their pattern, the are hard on each other, especially in a small tank. Now if you plan on moving to a bigger footprint, then you can start with juvenile shout's and move them to a bigge...

Re: Lifespan Congo tetras?
All I can say is that I've kept some of the small, south american Hyphessobrycon species for up to 5+6yrs. And Phacannogramus are a bigger tetra, I would bet they could live longer as larger fish tend to do. Do you know how old they were when you got them? I've never kept Congo's for more than 3yrs ...

My bad, didn't read it through (gotta stop this late night responding). No need to raise your voice.
If its soft and seem like its filled with fluid could be something like a 'hematoma' from here. If so, clean water and healthy eating, it should dissipate.

Welcome 8worlds. You've got a very healthy looking featherfin there. Congrats. What you probably were observing was how Synodontis eupterus interacts when the lights are out and/or when they feel really comfortable in their environment. They really are a communal species given enough space, the righ...

Re: Synodontis Brichhardi! I hope, not hybrids are they? Will they much small fish?
There are many different types of synos, and some are piscivorous. My S. waterloti will go for small to medium 'slow water' fish every time. He's a beast. Anything I put in with him as to be fast moving (like a rasbora) or able to defend itself. Otherwise they are lunch.

Re: wtb less common synodontis cats
Don't know that you would be interested in a few Synodontis alberti. about 4". Not flashy as far a color goes. But they have big round eyes and whiskers and fins like anglefish, long and flowing. The whiskers are as long as the body. They flourish in a low lit, softwater tank Pretty harmless as...

Re: Synodontis Brichhardi! I hope, not hybrids are they? Will they much small fish?
I guess its possible for an adult to eat a small fish, but these fish are lower level cruisers, feeding off the bottom (think worms, shrimp, algea, aufwuch). But I wouldn't put them in with fancy guppies. I would set them up with a nice flow across the bottom of your tank. I would say a 55 -75 gallo...

When you say "Articulated" do you mean its the natural color of the fish in the cat-elog? is it still upside down? Also what do you mean by the fish looking really bad ... are the fins ragged other than the red mark? Does it have a 'film' covering its body? I would try to hold off on the M...

Re: I have a dying pleco
Its possible you may not have a big problem betta blue. I'm assuming you have Pterygoplichthys pardalis . Sometimes if a pleco has eaten all the available algea in an aquarium, they can start eating the food you feed the oscar, meaty stuff. If they don't have enough algae in their diet to balance th...

Re: Talking catfish sick
I'm assuming you are talking about a synodontis when you say 'talking catfish'. But most probable that your catfish is reacting to the malachite green by producing lots of mucus. All 'naked' catfish (fish without scales) cannot deal with malachite green full strength. I would do an immediate 50% wat...

If you're only seeing a few 2-5 at a time maybe their reproduction is not that high. Kill everyone you see with a finger squish, or removal and flush down the toilet. At least you are killing potential breeders. Chemicals aren't always the only answer.

If it were my fish I would be game for giving it a test run with the rhinodoras. I don't know anything about R. gallagheri but they do exist with other alluvium sifting loricaria in their natural environment.

I'd extinguish them anyway; until you can know exactly what you are dealing with. If the head is the pointy end of your organism that could denote serious piercing and/or burrowing behavior and mouthparts. I'd take samples to a University invert expert. my 2¢
