Re: Panaque L-191 pack

Although these are slow growing they could reach 20 inches long so your suggestion would only be a temporary home for them but in the short term would be ok. Rocks are less important than wood but great filtration & good water management are vital

Re: S. Aterimus or S. Schoutedeni?

I've only ever seen 1 Aterimus ever in my life (which was in the late 80's) & everything else is a juvenile eupterus or hybrid - even most photos on the net are wrong - therefore I believe chances of obtaining this species is nil. For a 4x1 foot tank i'd go for a smaller species - nigriventris, ...

Re: looking for catfish ideas

I'm not sure I can find anything suitable from either the Esmeraldas or Tumbes to suggest. I would say it would need some cover for cats to go with Green Terrors & it needs to be either quite heavily armoured or boisterous & swift - so something like pteradoras or pseudacanthicus (armoured) ...

Does look similar to (though definitely isnt) . More photos might help, but hopefully someone else will chime in with an ID.

Re: platystomatichthys sturio

I only ever had one (when I was in the trade) about 10" TL. Delicate looking creature with 'normal' nose. Not a fussy eater at all - prawn, cod, squid pieces etc. Kept in a 6x2x2. Never 100% settled as it was easily startled & was 'uncomfortable as it's barbels were pretty much always in co...

Re: Question about Apple snail eating Catfish

Some doradids & synodontis (like Polli) will eat small apple snails. Neither are native to North America in fact no native North American catfish eat snails. Adding non-native species to a habitat is not only a bad idea it is most probably illegal

Pretty easy IME but as above - very high oxygenation, good water quality. Not fussy on feeding & mine were kept at room temperature without a heater in the UK

Re: synodontis petricola or lucipinnis

I am going to be disagreeing with Richard on this one, I think lucipinnis. Birger They could well be & probability says they are likely to be but at 6-8cm SL or TL I'd expect slightly more irregular blotching. On the lucipinnis I see regularly the rounder blotch/spots become more irregular at a...

Re: Newbie here - Catfish Walmart Rescue

Good advice on quarantine - I'd also chip in that now Walmart have sold these cats that were suffering, they'll just get another load in & perpetuate the cycle - if no-one buys them, they'll stop stocking them. Are Walmart accountable to any licencing body to sell livestock? That is where we sho...

Re: synodontis petricola or lucipinnis

What size are they currently? about 6-8 cm The body spots are fairly rounded & fairly regular. At the size you state, if they were Lucipinnis I'd expect to see much more irregular blotch type markings, therefore I'd suggest these are immature petricola - one of the regional variations. They do ...

Re: Farlowella curtirostra compatibility.

Most people won't spend too much time id-ing farlowella & will go with the name on the label in the store. There shouldn't be any issues with the fish you list with perhaps the soon to be added BA tetra which are inquisitive & can be a bit fin-nippy. That said it is more often centred around...

Dhonti is only known from a single specimen which was used to describe the species & colouration is described from the preserved specimen - this is the closest I've seen & would be my thought on what it is

Re: Black Lancer cat with ich

I've found this species quite sensitive to meds. I'd up the temp & increase aeration massively whilst doing a half dose with meds. Wooden airstone with masses of fine bubbles & internal powerfilter/powerhead to cause surface agitation
