Re: Auchenipterichthys coracoideus (zamora woodcat) spawned
Cessation of spawning aside, the fry from the six spawns are doing great! I suspect I have at least 400 babies growing out. I'm moving them to a 40 gallon tank soon. The Ziss breeder box is way too crowded.

Re: Auchenipterichthys coracoideus (zamora woodcat) spawned
Sadly, the pattern has broken. I did a water change on 25 February. It was the first WC since before my 10 January spawn. I wondered if that would either trigger the next spawn or alter the water quality and stop the spawning. Maybe it mattered; maybe it didn't... but the result is no new spawn. It'...

Re: Tank size corydoras weitzmani
I've put 10 C. sterbai in a tank that size. It can be done if you keep the water quality high. But it can also be a fragile balance and is at risk of water chemistry changes if you don't keep it stable.

Re: L27 vs L190 as juvenile and adult
Hello,
I'm not entirely clear on what you're asking. Are you asking if the two species can be told apart as juveniles? Are you asking if they'll grow to look the same as each other when they're adults?
Cheers,
Eric

Re: Rhyacoglanis aff. pulcher (nope, they're Pseudopimelodus) from the Rio Huallaga
Pics today of one Pseudopimelodus aff_bufonius in tank (the usual view I have of them) and of another individual, caught randomly. The latter is 13.6cm SL; this fish is "random" in that I did not attempt to catch the largest fish, although I think it might be the largest fish. If you compa...

Re: L306 breeding advice
Thanks so much I will definitely get some of those! Looking for a ziss style that is huge for attaching to some of my larger tanks. The tanklimate holes are to big. I've got over 200 Auchenipterichthys coracoideus in my Ziss BL-2. The babies are getting big so I need to move them to a bigger home. ...

Re: L306 breeding advice
Congratulations on your spawns! No, it's a standard Ziss BL-2. I chose it because it has a solid floor, which provides two benefits: 1) it prevents microworms from falling out of the box (a problem even with the fine mesh of the German breeder rings) and 2) when you drain the parents' tank for a wat...

Re: Driftwood from Alabama River
Lol. Indeed, bamboo stinks as it soaks, but it's so good as a spawning cave or hiding place. The worst wood I ever tried was an old grape vine ( https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=299723#p299723). It developed a horribly smelly thick slime. I was hoping the L397 might eat the slime,...

For a fleeting moment, I thought I had the Norgum River solved, but no. I found two publications about invertebrates, each collected along the Norgum river below a specific village. In one case, the Dengzi Village. In the other case, the Betchilling Village. Combining those two references with the C...

Re: Ancistrus sp. Rio Ucayali spawned. :-)
Second clutch of eggs hatched and the previous group of fry are doing good. Not surprising, but somehow there are a few of the older fry loose in the tank too. Either dad let a few get away from him, or else a few managed to escape the German breeder ring.

Re: New Creteuchiloglanis
As I added this new species to the CLOG and endeavored to create a (hopefully) accurate river system to near its location, I noticed a minor discrepancy in the type locality as presented in the paper. I think it's probably insignificant since most GIS data have a margin of error, but I'm not totally...

The dorsal view of your L397 does appear to have small odontodes, so it might be male. 9cm is plenty large to show sexual traits.

The only L397 shown looks female to me, but if it's immaturethen could be male. My inclinations on the Hemiancistrus are all female based on pectoral odontodes alone.
