Re: Grey with big black spots? Who is this chap?

I have to disagree with Ocellifer as the ID. The adipose doesn't seem deep enough & the body spots look too prolific with some less rounded spots. Fully spotted Ocellifer (as opposed to spotless, partially spotted or ocellated variants) tend to have very rounded spots. A good side on photo would...

The first of the set of photos in the last post shows the eye to be 74% size of snout length so this should be grandiops

Re: Help with this Synodontis ID please

It does look like a multi but a square on side photo would enable an accurate measure of eye size as a proportion of snout length to help confirm this

Re: Synodontis Polli

As I posted above, this fish has a white leading edge/hard spine to the dorsal & pectorals - only Lucipinnis & Petricola (&hybrids) exhibit this.

These are Petricola

Re: A good catfish for a planted community tank?

The black ghost knife is a poor choice as it will eat small fish & grows to 20 inches.

What sort of catfishes are you after - something visible? Pseudeutropius are a visible shoaling genera & fairly often available

Are these the photos from Facebook?
They are definitely NOT Polli as it doesn't have a hard white spine on the dorsal/pectorals.

These are all Petricola variations

Not sure any Morymid would do well with larger synos - they really are for specialised tanks only

Re: banjo cat/Bunocephalus coracoideu?

They are certainly banjo catfish - they might appreciate a sandy substrate more as they like to burrow & that gravel wont allow them to do what comes naturally. Failing that they often hide in leaf litter so you could add dead oak or beech leaves - in your part of the world you'd have to check i...

Re: How long does it take to stunt a juvinalie pleco?

Hi Michael Welcome to PC Sounds like the tank is vastly overstocked (with bottom feeders) currently along with species that will interbreed (L333 & L046) & directly outcompete some others, & close to maximum stocking in total, without room for growth. Each 3.5" pleco really needs a ...

Nice find! They are so uniquely shaped in the syno world, love my trio. Are they uniquely shaped? Soloni & Caudalis aren't far off.... although we don't see these too often They are a fantastic species & the only syno I've seen use their mouth to cling to the glass like a pleco (or chilogla...

Re: Synodontis melanostictus?

Wow, what a beautiful beast. S. melanostictus looks closest. Interesting to see angelicus bullied for a change. One of the smaller synos under the log looks like a ornatipinnis or decorus and/or ornatipinnis hybrid. What a menagerie, but makes for great 'fishporn' at any rate. The fish under the lo...

Re: Syno Angelicus... have we made a terrible mistake?

Most large adult synos are 'opportunistic' - in that they might eat small fish although they are not going to actively look to eat them. This includes Angelicus so as mentioned above , it is a gamble. Also, what water conditions do you have. For a rift tank I'd stick with rift synos. Riverine specie...

Re: Syno very plump and not growing

It does look like a genuine granulosus. My Granulosus have been quite slow growing with no noticeable difference between tank bred & wild caught. On your fish the belly is very distended & in the last photo the eyes look to be bulging slightly. There could be internal problems such as a buil...

Re: Agressive and wounded Ancistrus HELP!

What size is the tank? I've found a pair of adults of the same species (Common BN) really need a minimum of 24x12x12 When you mix species the tank needs to be a bit bigger - good advice above from bekateen which should work but the restricted space may be a problem & any changes may result in a...
