Depending on their sizes, I see one female (#5) and the rest is males or subadult.

Looking nice, will start feeding them now. Though I'm pretty sure they have been munching away at the leafs for 2-3 days already.

Re: Black and White Hypancsistrus... L173?
TTA,
sadly there was only this one fish among the group of L173s I obtained. Honestly, I would have preferred a group of these over the L173
So I will settle for a nice coloured L333 then?
Will need to find an adequate mate for him.

I've seen my L66 females eat away at the veggies I offer quite a lot lately.

Re: My new L397s and Peckoltia compta, imported from the UK to California
Well, Peckoltia seem to be seasonal spawners, so unlike the many Xingu Hypancistrus, they won't spawn when they are not in season. And you can turn yourself upside down, but they just won't care! I'm having that headache as well... and quite a lot

Thanks everyone. Yes I really like his look as well.
TTA, so it does not look like any of your adult L173s?

Black and White Hypancsistrus... L173?
So I got myself a group of L173 lately. There is one specimen that is way bigger and presumable older than the rest of the group. Was told it was an L173. Well he looks pretty damn nice and I paid less than 50€ for it... I am not too confident what it is. Could be a nice L333 or a "L236. At lea...

Eric, it's insane how your fry color pattern already looks like panaqolus at that size.
I will add wallnut leaves. They offer shelter and food. Will add food when they look like yours.

Re: L397 - Is this spawning behaviour?
Looks like it worked out to some extend, Chuck :-) after about 24h of trapping, the female was released. I did not see any eggs. But the male was fanning. This was on friday. Today, sunday, I found eggs in their tank. Sadly most of them were already gone. Not sure who ate them (shrimps, male/female)...

Re: L397 - Is this spawning behaviour?
Was another false alarm. Found him in another cave the other day. There seemed to be a lot of stress among the fish, with more than 1 dominant male fighting for caves and probably more than one gravid female trying to get in with a male. So I made a change, one that I often do, when I want to force ...

Re: Combining L333 spawns
My fry will do this in a breeder box, but they will not show themselfes at the top of a tank, if I leave them with their parents. They usually go and hide away. Only see them out at night.

Re: L397 - Is this spawning behaviour?
The male is fanning a lot at the end of the cave now. The cave is narrow, can't really see any eggs. Not sure. The female is still round. Not sure if she lost some size or not. Maybe he is sitting on some eggs. Can't tell at all.

Re: L397 - Is this spawning behaviour?
Thanks for your reply, Eric. Too bad, the trapping seems to have ended without a spawn, again. I need to learn to keep myself away from the tank during these active periods. But curiosity usually gets the better of me. Hope another attempt will follow soon. Female is definitely gravid and the male i...

Re: L397 - Is this spawning behaviour?
Nothing happened here for a while. I kept them on harder water for the last two weeks. High temperature, 31°C. It looked like a storm was coming yesterday. So I went ahead and did a 50% waterchange with soft, cool rainwater. The storm passed by without any downfall. Now I'm having a trapping. The bi...

Re: H. furunculus caught eating banana plant roots
Bananas is rather rich in carbohydrates. These carbohydrates are normally rather scarce in nature, therefore I would chouse almost anything before I´d feed bananas. Bananas are good for you yourself, the plecos would have to settle for courgette which is also known as zuchinni. If you raise them yo...

Re: L340 Spawn, need help!
Like Chuck said, there is no need for hasty actions right now. Even once they hatched, they will stay with the dad for about 10-14 days. I would put them in the fry saver about 7 days after hatching. Start feeding on day 12-14 depending on development.
Best luck!
Johannes

L397 - Is this spawning behaviour?
Hey folks, I finally managed to upgrade my L397s to a healthy group of 8 specimen. Pretty sure I have both genders in the mix. 3 Males show strong odontodes.
