pet v. multi
You will be able to tell by growth rates. The multis will be an inch in about a week or so. the Petricolas will take 2 months.

ABN's kicking fry out
My male ABN was wachting the eggs for about 3 days . Then today he started kicking some fry out of the cave. They are just barely fry. They are really just an egg with a tail right now. I have had them kick out eggs before but never fry.I was lucky enought to catch this and took the fry out.

multis and NLS
Mine eat mostly NLS and seem to be fine. They also get Sonic power pellets and love them also. The NLS might get expensive if it were the only food, though.

S.Petricolas and temps
Did anyone ever notice higher egg counts with higher temps. Mine were in about 82 and did real well. I moved them to another tank(about77) and the egg counts were smaller. I dont know if its a coincidence, or they just needed time to get comfortable in the new tank. I put the tank up to about 82-84 ...

Just strippes a peacock cichlid and got 4 Syno. Multipunctatus. One was sucking on the peacock fry. One was dead , no egg sac. @ were fine. For the record, 2 day old multipunctatus fry(still with egg sac) can eat a whole tank of 2 week old petricola fry.

I have had best success with young cichlids. When they got older, i think they catch on to the cats. A 55g has been fine for me.

You only need 1 male and 1 female. More helps but specific ratios do not matter.

condition petricola
Lots of food , clean water, must be old enough. And in my case, a two day power outage in my house helped the cause. Maybe a coincidence, but since then they lay eggs every day.
