Re: Air Pumps & PH

tap water usually gives a lower pH rating right out of tap (has some CO2 dissolved) than after you let it sit (ie. in aquarium). once the CO2 leaves the water (air will off-gass the CO2 by dissolving more O2 and other gasses) the pH will normally rise. More buffered/harder water will not see drastic...

looks nice. i bet it would look nicer if you attach the ferns and anubias to the driftwood instead of growing them on the ground.

Red Bristlenose Pleco

Hi,
I am looking for a red BN male.
Please let me know if you have them for sale. The males are very easy to sex - they have bristles while females will not.

the patch of skin missing on top of the head of that cichlid could have been from the fish jumping one night and hitting the hood.

Re: Urgent : Dying Bristlenose (albino)

either not getting enough to eat, the tank is not cycled properly (what is the ammonia reading?), there is a lack of maintenance going on and the water is getting polluted, stray voltage from equipment, or the most likely culprit - pesticides. Make sure you are washing the greens super well and boil...

Re: L-47 Mango dies

I have read about numerous people having trouble with gold nuggets, similar to your experience with the mango here. Some have more luck than others. I haven't read about anyone keeping a gold nuggets for many years, but then again they wouldn't complain if their fish are doing fine, so we usually do...

Re: L-47 Mango dies

I wonder why such plecos are so difficult to keep. assuming it has no diseases or parasites when you get it, it may be the detrimental effects of w/e technique was used to collect the plecos. if the collection was done without stressing the pleco too much, then I bet it's something that is missing i...

I think you should not start your new tank off with a pleco like that. try other fish first, and when the tank matures, introduce the pleco.

Also could someone please describe what L133 and L048 normally look like at this young age? The size of the plecos is 10cm-17cm. For example, their coloration, etc.

Re: Ancistrus Red

I would think the most aggressive and dominant male will be the most productive. two males and two females in a tank that is at least 30-40 gallons is good. but you need to give them plenty of caves and hiding places because the males will fight. you dont want just one male in case something might h...

Re: super red pleco

That looks like a "gold Pleco" as my LFS calls them. probably a color morph of a common pleco or relative. i bet they grow large. would be priced similar to a common pleco of that size.

however i do not know for sure what exactly yours is. that's just my guess.

now make sure the ones in the tank can get food. i have lost many because they starved when they were too little released into a huge tank. they didnt know what to do or where to go when i fed them.

Re: Catfish species with Plecos

yeah which specific plecos are you keeping there? slower eaters like some hypans will get outcompeted by a lot of other catfish, so it may not be best to mix them. they will eventually starve.

bristlenose plecos compete well with just about anything though. no big catfish.

Re: NutraSoil Warning - Aquagrow product by TMC

i hope you do not lose any fish!

this product sounds like ADA Amazonia aquasoil or w/e it's called. i used it before and had to cycle the tank for a month. it continues to release ammonia to help a new tank cycle. definitely not suitable for fish or other livestock right away.
