Error 404 on "last picture" on Cat-eLog entries.

I noticed that all the new Catelog entries seems to have problems showing the final of the pictures, and shows a Error 404 page when going to the last picture in the list. (Doesn't matter if you go "next" or click on the last one directly). I'm not sure if this is directly or indirectly re...

Re: L002 - Tiger Panaque

I would welcome any advice on these 'cats'. I have just had it ID'ed on the other website page (Thank you 'Wood' for the ID) but there is not a lot of information on the Cat-elog page. So any info on diet, temperature, compatability etc would be appreciated. At present I alternate cucumber, peas an...

Pterygoplichthys pardalis *phew* I must have just mixed up my speicies then :) Just as a general question then - could regular un-treated wood be substituted for driftwood in a pinch then? Nes. Yes and no. I'm sure if you take the right kind of wood, it'll sink to the bottom of the tank. But it's a...

Sid, It is sad. While Jools and I were collecting in Maryland last week, Jools kept exclaiming "What a pretty fish." I have caught wild rams and wild blue spotted sunfish and the sunfish are just about as pretty. People want what is foreign. Wish I had taken a photo of the $50 clown loach...

I voted "if money and timing is right". However, living in England, getting to a convention for a weekend in the US (no matter exactly where), is always going to be a bit of a stretch of the available budget of both time and money. So although it's a "positive vote", don't count ...

You should really just buy your media from your lfs. Its much easier and it is made so that It will not harm your fish. Plus what is your time worth.... Are you going to spend an hour breaking plates or cutting up pvc. Just grab it on your way out from your weekly visit to your lfs! Whitepine: I ag...

Thanks MatsP, I do have serveral pieces of driftwood in the tank. But I'll make sure I do more research before I get another pl*co. Not sure if that helps. It may be that you were just unlucky... Btw, what temp do you have in the tank. Pl*co's seem to live in lower temperatures than for instance so...

Not really a bug - More of a question about the site...

It seems like the forum part is _REALLY_ slow at around 10.30/11.00 (GMT+1) or thereabouts. Is there some sort of maintenance or such going on at that time? I've noticed this several times, and other sites seem to work just fine at the same time, so I'm pretty sure it's the Planet Catfish Forum mach...

Fishist, Really sorry to hear about your loss. From what I've read, they like to get some drift-wood to "chew". It contains fibers that they need for their pretty lengthy intestines. It could of course be any of a large number of other reasons that caused it to stop eating, including some ...

Maybe this is obvious, but... Make sure there's some wood in the tank. Most of the pleco's like to rasp wood for fibre, and they also, supposedly, disolve the lignin in the wood for nourishment. If there's no wood in the tank, the pleco will get indigestion. Best of luck, hope you can figure out wha...

If you have some surplus white "eating plates", they'll be useable, but the stuff made for the purpose that you buy in the LFS will be a couple of grades better because it's more porous (as some other posters mentioned). The glaze that is "dangerous" would mostly be the ones that...

Janne, do you leave driftwood in the tank even when you are starving the pl*cos? I think this type of bloat is temperature related like if you feed snakes when they are cold - they will not be able to metabolise the food and it will rot in their stomach. Very sorry to hear about your loss. Assuming that the actual reason for the loss was the unheated tank at the show, wouldn't an obvious solution be to get a small heater to keep the small tank at the correct temperature (at least roughly)? Of course, it could be that the relationship between the dea...

Typo on Synodontis brichardi

I think it's supposed to be 6-8 pH, and 22-27 degrees C, and not 6-8 degrees C and 22-27 pH. A pH of 22 would be rather difficult to get in water solution. I think Sodium Hydroxide in water solution gets to about 15 when it's really concentrated, and that's about as high pH as you can get... -- Mats
