Re: What breed & sex is my catfish

I believe it is (aka L205). Sexing isn't very easy, but judging by the shape of the head, I'd guess a female.

I'd say "fat" = female. But it's still not a great photo for purposes of sexing the fish.

Re: ID For Golden Pleco

Yes, it's a colour variant. It will, given plenty of food and clean water, reach at least 6" in a year, and 12" in less than two years.

Re: Identification of Bristlenose

The first one may be a female. It has a little bit too much "stubble" for me to be sure. A photo from above or below would be better, since that will tell us the shape of the head and body - mainly after the proportion of body vs. head, as males have a head that is quite wide, and otherwis...

It is a Hypancistrus, so it will not grow very quickly.

Re: What species?

There are clearly at least two different species in this lot. I can't see ANY that are saying "I'm a Peckoltia" in my view, and I'm 99% sure none of the fish are actualy Peckoltia vittata, and my feeling (but I can't say for sure, as, unfortunately, the pictures showing clear distinctions ...

Ok, I know what the problem is and how to fix it. Will try to submit something tonight, as I need to leave for work now and I don't have time to go through and test all the combinations of the usage. For Jools: all the "rename_genus", "manage families" and "rename species&qu...

It is indeed the intended functionality in "Old MS browsers". Maybe we could have a "nicer message", but I spent quite some time trying to make it work, and it's simply broken.

Good, that problem solved then... When you say "I don't get a map anywhere", does that mean "You expect to see a map, but there isn't one", or "It's not there, and I don't expect one" (the latter being the case with older versions of IE, but should work OK with a more r...

Re: cat e logue homepage bugged

If you don't mind, can you raise a different thread for "search results" don't work. I found a bug to do with showing images in the search-result page, but that isn't giving the error you are reporting, so you probably need to give a bit more detail as to exactly what you have done (I rand...

Re: Fatal error when uploading pics

I try my best to make it clear when I submit fixes that they don't go onto the site until Jools have checked that it "looks good". I'm perfectly happy with that, I don't want to be responsible for breaking things unnecessarily... ;) But it does mean that sometimes it takes a few hours or d...

Re: My cats page says I haven't registered any populations y

I think the changes that I made in R1387 will fix the "black image" problem. It turned out to be somewhat inconistent use of "my_fish" vs. "my_cats" vs "nothing" that caused problems (and because it's in the middle of a very long path, it was hard to spot took...

This problem should be fixed by the same fix as the other thread reporting the same problem. In R1386. [Although something is not quite right still, I think].

Re: Error message

You are not doing anything wrong, the code on the site for these things is currently broken. This is a consequence of some dramatic overhaul of all the image data, which did break quite a few things (most is easy to fix, this one took about 10 minutes to figure out what's wrong and how to fix it, bu...

Re: geographic squirrel

With some digging around, it turns out that google chrome [and possibly others, most likely anything using the V8 JavaScript engine, at the very least] doesn't "like" the syntax of one of the JavaScript statements in our map-drawing code. I have submitted this change to Jools for uploading...

Re: My cats page says I haven't registered any populations y

Finally managed to drag myself away from other things and do some work on this. I have submitted two pieces of code for Jools to upload to the site: 1. A script that can be run once a day or some such, which will fix users who in the past have registered species, and it's not been counted correctly ...

Ok, that's definitely a problem for Jools - he's working with various image functionality, and moving pictures around. I'm sure he'll sort that soon, but thanks for reporting, as there are lots of different places that images are used in different ways.

Still getting this problem. That your "my cats" has not registered any populations? Yes, that problem is definitely not fixed. I'm still trying to figure out what the right solution is. We're going to rewrite most of these pages in the near future, so I'm tempted to do a "quick fix&q...
