Re: The South-American Knifefishes thread

Something is wrong with my internet at home. i will be working on it tonight. I did find a single casualty. This was the runt of the group. I am guessing he hadn't been eating with the others (as he was really thin). I also know he was one where I could see his tail in the cave under driftwood they ...

Re: The South-American Knifefishes thread

Well they aren't getting fatter, but definitely not getting skinnier. I did see two of the bigger ones picking up chopped trout worms (my worm farm is doing well, so this is a plus as well.)

I will charge my camera's battery at lunch and hopefully get some pictures tonight.

Re: The South-American Knifefishes thread

Sorry, been super busy/lazy lol.. Yes. still have yet to add the hatchetfish as I had hoped, but all knives are active and seem to be doing fine. I haven't lost any. I still don't see them actually feed, but their activity increases when the worms hit the water. I believe I have two species (Steatog...

Re: The South-American Knifefishes thread

My fish are all doing fine (from what I can tell.) They arrived Tuesday, and I have been extremely busy with work and household stuff. They really scare me. Some days they will sleep on the bottom all day/night and not move for anything, then the next morning... POOF they are ALL swimming around. I ...

Re: The South-American Knifefishes thread

Ben, what was your experience with the centipede knives (Steatogenys duidae)? I have several feeding options, but was curious if they ever got to taking high end pellets or something like repashy? I have read a few threads about how they can be weaned onto high end pellets, but I will continue to do...

Re: The South-American Knifefishes thread

i will complete my post this afternoon/tonight. I am converting my 125 gallon community bar tank into a centipede knifefish (Steatogenys duidae) tank. My friend is bringing them in from South America this week. I hope to pick them up this weekend (pending his OK to release them.) Right now the tank ...

Re: accidental crossing

Looking at the picture, your fish looks identical to every other common albino bristlenose. IMO, based on the fry in that breeder box, there look to be no non-albino fish which strongly suggests yours being common. Look at this Ancistrus sp`pucallpa` . There is one picture, very few keepers and no a...

The dad is a common albino bristlenose. With breeding with the calico (another line bred common bristlenose) you have no issues with the outcome.

Re: Odd characin thread

I have a hard time spending money on the odd characins as the ones tend to never do well for me. I love the pictures in this thread. I am trying to find something tiny to keep with my betta channoides... guessing I should do rasboras, but are their tetras that also would work and NOT prey on the bab...

Syno Lucipinnis

How pushy are these when it comes to less agressive fish? I recently purchased some Xenotilapia to house in my new project 75 gal. I wanted to add some of my syno's to the tank as well, but mine have seemed pushy with the brevis and calvus they are currently with, and I don't want to injure, hurt, s...

I am 95% sure I know where he collects from :) based on your information above, the shiners are probably eating it. I would recommend breaking up the earthworm into bite size pieces to make sure they can find it. I am suprised you are having issues feeding. When I kept them in the past, no matter ho...

Is it a closed ended cave? If so maybe a tube open on both ends may help?
