sugggest you take a water sample down to a LFS and have them test your water. You need to test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels. If these check out fine start a general antibacteral medication. what diet do you give your plec? it's 6 years old it should be big a fat, whereas it looks kind of ...

From what i've read so far the facts are. tank is too small, water changes not often enough or not enough changed each time plus force feeding large amounts of food. Sound to me as if the triginus is eating so mu...

Unless this tank is very big i am of the opinion that it's got a dangerously low KH. that is to say your pH could crash any second, there are not many reasons to maintain a KH this low.

besides that the move you describe sounds fine.

The L/LDA number system came about because we discovered so many species in such a small amount of time that there is simply not enough time to give them full scientific names. So the L numbers and LDA numbers are just temporary until they are fully identified.

Two or three times a week is quite normal for any species of fish, they do sometimes scratch themselves the same way we sometimes scratch ourselves (its just that most do it on plants and wood ect so unless you watch for the behaviour it would go unnoticed). It doesn't mean there is an actual infect...

Have you tested the water? what were the results?
How often is it scratching itself?
Is there any gray patches of skin or any marks...ect?
How long have you had the E-cat for?
It well be hard to speculate cause without alot more information.

So would an anti-bacterial medicine help or just be over kill? Thank you. Over kill as it's not a good idea to mix chemicals unless you know exactly what you are mixing. Secondary infections should be handled as and when you see them. The best you can do is to keep your water quality as good as pos...

If the white spot in advanced stage you will need to use a combination of heat treatment. increase tank temperature to 30-32C this will increase parasite life cycle, and use a 50% dose of any white spot treatment. If no improvement after a couple of days of treatment you can move up to a full dose t...

This condition can also be caused by an eye fluke and a seperate bacterial infection. Age would have lowered the immune system of your P. costatus and now it's become more susceptible.
