Re: forked barbel
I'm pretty sure in this case, it's genetic. I've had him for several years and it was always like this. My substrate is fine, since all my corys have long barbels, as you can see from this cory's barbels.

forked barbel
just wanted to share a pic of one of my male panda corydoras with a very cool forked barbel. It would be even cooler if 4 of his long barbels were forked, would look like a bushynose cory

freshwater fairy shrimps for fry?
I recently found an ebay listing, I am not the seller, for freshwater fairy shrimp eggs. These are similar to brine shrimp but much easier to hatch, supposedly you just drop them intowater and wait a day for them to hatch, no airpump or salt needed. Anyone try this to feed cory fry? Here's the link ...

Re: Cory ID
I bought them as "whitefin" corydoras if that helps. I don't think they are C. agassizii, the cory is not as pale as the pic shows but it's not as colourful as C. agassizii.

Re: Should I be concerned?
if you didn't mix up your nitrate and nitrite readings, then you should be concerned. A cycled tank should have zero nitrite readings and some nitrate reading. The nitrogen cycle is ammonia -> nitrite -> nitrate

Re: snail eaters
interesting, when I tore down my planted tank, that had plenty of snails, and switched to a mix cory tank, the snails eventually disappeared. I always assumed it was because of the corys efficiancy in eating all the food and therefore no leftovers for the snails.

Re: did I spawn C. habrosus?
nerite eggs are quite different then cory eggs. I had nerites and they would lay eggs all over, I've also spawned a few corys. Nerite eggs have a hard shell, cory eggs are "softer"

I read silica sand was a sharp substrate so not appropriate for corys. Have you guys been using silica sand without problems?

Carib Sea Fine Marine white sand
I was looking for some fine white sand at the LFS and the only one they carried was Carib Sea Marine fine white sand. The bag says it's for freshwater aswell since it's not supposed to alter ph, but is this safe for corys? Any one use this for their corys?

epsom salt
Is epsom salt(magnesium sulfate) safe to use on corydoras? I need the magnesium to fertilize my plants. I know it's not safe to use salt on corys but not sure if this applies to epsom salt.

Re: Lone Pandy Cory Fry
I have a related question, I'm raising 2 panda fry in a floating container, they are a little over 1 cm and are just starting to show their panda markings, when should I release it into the main tank with the other pandas and corys? no problems with other tank inhabitants since it's a cory tank with...

Re: Pygmy Cories
Shrimp love breakfast with egg  I raise hundreds of shrimp along side my Corydoras habrosus and C. hastatus. They don't touch the Corydoras eggs. I started off with 10 each of the Corys about 8 months ago and spawn raise them in permanent 20 gal longs which they share with shrimp. Now I have ...

Re: Pygmy Cories
When I had a pair of Blue rams in my 35 gal mixed cory tank, I would have to move the corys into their own tank if I wanted to breed them. When the rams died, the corys started breeding in their 35 gal, including my pygmy corys.

Hi,
I just collected a few pygmy cory fry from my main tank. Can pygmy fry take microworms as their first food or can they only handle infusoria? thanks

removing eggs immediately?
Hi,
My pandas have been spawning vigorously every other day, always at around 10pm. While one female is depositing eggs in the java ferns, the other females go egg hunting. Is it ok to remove the eggs immediately after they've been laid?

Did you soak your decapsulated brine shrimp cysts in fresh water? That will soften them up whereas a brine solution tends to leave them intact. I have tried the dbbsc myself and my Cory fry did not always seem to recognize them as food. They began accepting them better when I fed them cysts with a ...

Right now I'm raising some sterbai fry, and once I've freed up a tank I'll try to spawn my pandas. I've been trying to feed decapsulated brine shrimp eggs, but the fry treat them like sand, in it goes and out it goes through their gill plate. That's why I want to give the hatchable ones a try. Do yo...
