Re: Are this L 184?
Based on the small spotting, I'd say, as you already guessed, probably not L184 . As to what they are... Ancistrus are notoriously difficult to identify without capture location, and the spotted ones are often harder when adult as they lose much of the juvenile colouring (such as the white edges to ...

Re: Pseudauchenipterus nodosus ?
I'm not convinced it is, but the only decent photo doesn't show a true side-on photo..the caudal fin doesn't look as forked as the fish above. I'm not saying it's not, just am not sure the photos are good enough for a comparison. Your fish does look like a male though.

And the snub node is a deformity - have seen this before with these, not sure what causes it, maybe something missing in the parents diet?

Re: L213???? or not???
Can't confirm ID, but with all ancistrus, males have the bushy growths around the edge and up the middle of the snout, whereas females either have none or a few small ones around the edge of the snout. Only males will have them up the middle, so it looks like you might have all males.

What size are these Ben? The mouth looks almost disfigured, but if young, maybe they grow into it?
The dark patch on the dorsal doesn't fit with the images of T. cristinae but if young, that could well be normal and it just fades as they mature?

Just a minor point, the description still says Smaller than C.fowleri, yet C.fowleri is listed as 15.9" SL - should this be updated too?

How big is it? SL for is listed at 2.8", which your fish looks bigger than (that's not to say the quoted size is right, it's just right for any fish seen.). Maybe ? Just the one fish?

Hi Victor
Thanks
Martin
Pulcher was my first though, but the photos in clog don't appear to have the stripes seen in this fish, which was what threw me. As @Jools says, it maybe something unknown/unusual?Viktor Jarikov wrote:A quick look says pulcher or rufescens. Are these the ones you thought of, Martin?

Firstly, welcome to PlanetCatfish! Great size tank! You can search and set the temperature range to allow you to show fish that are found within your tank's temperature range - go to the search page and set the min and max temp (I used 80 to 85F) to show the first 50 (can be extended to 100, but the...

I would suspect 4" to be too small, but with a varied diet and good conditions, once he/she gets to 6"+ then you should be able to get a better idea.

Think you've dome the right thing. It certainly won't do any harm to treat the main tank with a precautionary dose of something suitable, remembering to increase oxygenation and temperature accordingly. Hope it makes it through, lovely fish so would be a real shame to loase it after 2 years. Good ne...
