Re: Is this ich?

The smaller helogenes and the last neon tetra are dead. So that leaves 6 fishes for you to monitor closely. Please do so and don't do anything drastic, like a complete water change. Give them some time to refind balance. If necessary, dose again. If in severe doubt, dose again. Given the victims, y...

Re: Is this ich?

Do these fish also have Ich? If so, you might consider another dose of the med you used and/or adding a little more salt (non-iodined). The salt triggers the slime coat to get thicker, thus giving parasites less chance. Ime your fishes should be able to cope with a salt dosage of 1 gramme per liter ...

Re: Scottish government is one step closer to "postive" species list

Although I have a firm opinion about this, I will not be lured into talking politics. So, why do I react? You might want to change the title; I take it it should read "positive" instead of "postive". Edit: "meaning" replaced by "opinion" as suggested by Panaque.

Bacterial.
And don't blame yourself; if things go that quickly, there's hardly anything to nothing you could have done to save this fish.

Two more victims: the old Trachelyopterichthys taeniatus female and a large Ageneiosus atronasus female. I'm pretty sure none of the atronasus will survive. One other atronasus has died, but afaics that is going to be it. Which means 5 atronasus and the female of Ageneiosus sp 4 have made it to rec...

Hello and welcome to PC. It could be that it was born this way (meaning without fins)? It looks healthy to me, but of course I can only use the picture as a reference. Nevertheless, Synos are pretty hardy. Did you have a look at this thread: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t...

Re: Is this ich?

I worry that people using half measures has contributed to this ich superstrain we keep hearing about. Not to derail this any further, but I think the problem of creating superstrains starts at exporters, importers and even local sellers and their inevitable "preventive" treatments. That ...

Re: Is this ich?

Any recommendations for scaleless fish meds ? I see this come up again and again. Can someone explain why scaleless fishes need to ich-treated differently to other fishes? Over here it's written down specifically in the instructions that come with medicins; "not to be used on (with?) scaleless...

Alas, I have no idea which meds are available at your end. Nevertheless, a combi of formalin and methylin (spelling??) blue worked for me, although it is often not recommended with scaleless fishes. From my rather recent experience however, I can tell you that my auchenipterids had no probs with a t...

Re: Is this ich?

Looks like it and imo it's not a good idea to try to catch it, as you will stress it even more. Were there 2 different specimens in the video? If so they both have it, so I'd say start treating them asap. Medication (proper!), salt, extra oxygen and a temp raise. That should do the trick. To my regr...

Re: legality of parasitic catfish?

If this law is based on Burgess' book, it is certainly outdated - to say the least. It is an enormous generalization to include all Cetopsidae based on the behaviour of just a few species. Besides, what to do with the former family Helogenidae, which is now included in Cetopsidae? They should be all...

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?

If you're doing a daily 25% water change, pls beware that you re-add 25% of the medication that disappears with the water change. The same goes for the salt. Ime you should refrain from water changes during a treatment, unless the instruction leaflet tells you to do so. After the cure you could rest...

Marc, how was the temperament of your gnathocharax ? I've got a shot at some but know absolutely nothing about them. Also, are they jumpers? Give them enough room/space, otherwise you'll end up with one specimen. These fishes fight rather fiercely amongst each other.

I commend you for trying your best to save your fish! Thanks again, but misfortune has (re-)entered my tank - just like yours.
