Re: Agressive and wounded Ancistrus HELP!
What size is the tank? I've found a pair of adults of the same species (Common BN) really need a minimum of 24x12x12 When you mix species the tank needs to be a bit bigger - good advice above from bekateen which should work but the restricted space may be a problem & any changes may result in a ...

Re: S. lucipinnis with small tetras?
PS - my comments do refer solely to Lucipinnis as other members of this genus will actively eat small fish - granulosus being a prime example

Re: S. lucipinnis with small tetras?
In my experience Lucipinnis are not piscivourous at all. Small tetras have been fine & even baby guppys as far as I can tell as there're so many of them!

It is a poor pic but catfishchaos suggestion is about as good as I think we can go without a clearer photo - has it got some netting caught in the dorsal?

Re: I think these Synodontis hybrids are the same, no?
Absolutely - I'm not sure these are actually all the same 'mix' rather than similar looking fish that have been grouped together as a 'likely or best guess'Viktor Jarikov wrote:Indeed there appears to be a significant appearance variation within the hybrid (1) Cat-elog photographs as it is.

Re: I think these Synodontis hybrids are the same, no?
Viktor Whilst I agree with part of your post (about the significant changes as the fish grows) I think the 3 hybrid types you've clog-linked are all different. As Birger has said, there are huge variations within batches produced. In conversation with someone who deliberately produces hybrids, he sa...

Re: Synodontis granulosus
If imported from the UK it's likely they were from NHA who do the genuine breeding of granulosus. They should have rear finnage that is white but not the leading edge - see the f1 photos in cat-e-log for comparison (photo 15 & 16)

Re: Synodontis granulosus
The fish in question is in the U.S. I have a link to the sellers site I think. http://trinsfish.com/synodontis-granulosus-catfish/ These are hybrid fish - the leading hard edge of the pectorals is white - granulosus do not have this! These are really accurate hybrids apart from the feature above - ...

Re: Synodontis granulosus
As far as I'm aware there are only 2 confirmed sources of captive bred Granulosus worldwide & the only UK source is NHA (Neil Hardy: a wholesaler).(The other is in the USA). NHA supply many UK shops like Maidenhead branches etc. Lots of these retailers sell them at quite an expensive price - the...

Re: Granulosa
Hi & welcome to PC Although it's not a great photo, from what I can see it doesn't obviously look like a hybrid. I understand that someone in the US has had success tank breeding these which is the only successful source of T/B in the US & only the second successful raising I can be relative...

Re: Synodontis question
The ray count is indeed the definitive way to tell the species apart but in order to do this it either needs to be in a small photo tank or netted. That said if I had to say, it has the 'feel' of multipunctatus as the eye looks smaller as a % of snout length compared to grandiops although this has t...
