Re: Biofilter vs. Non biofilter
Hi, I had a HOT Magnum filter for 5 years. To add biomatrix , remove top by pulling thewire in front up,toward the back, it will lift open. Then reach in and remove the light blue cover, then the light blue tube. Now reomove the black top that is sitting there, the cartridge will be below that. Take ...

Re: Dither fish for L046 and L260
Hi, although I didn't have the same plecs as you,but before my recent loss, I kept 2 L128's with harlequin raspbora, pencil fish , rainbow fish and a farlowella. They all got along great ..no probs. Prior to this i also had some zebra and longfin danios, however they are very spazzy , zipping all ar...

Re: January 30, 2012 Fish Loss
hi, I am so sorry for your loss. I do know how you feel , as i recently lost everyone in my 54g tank, incl my favs, 2 L128's (5") which i raised from babies for 4 years. I know the heartbreak , from loosing just 2 plecs and various amazon dither fish, but you have lost so much more. All I can s...

Re: Lets talk heaters
Eheim jagger also.Comes with a 3 yr warranty. One downside, no cover, so if your plecs like to hide behind it ,could cause burns. Prob can get a cover on the net. After the initial calibration, I have not had to mess with it at all.

Re: Getting plecos to eat veggies
-hi, I have 2 L128 sub-adults. Yep , mine love zucchini skin(they dont eat the inside) and also love red and green bell peppers, spinach, brocalli stalk-(hard outside removed). All the veggied go in the tank raw, except i do have to lightly blanch butternut squash. Good luck with your blue phantom !...

sexing L128'a
ok, this subject is probably getting played out ,but gotta ask. I have seen the photos on the calalog site showing male and females. I have noticed the female has a more sloped head from the side view , whereas the male has a flatness that drops. So my question is for us less experienced in sexing t...

Re: Help! pink L134s dying
can u get ahold of Microbe-Lift Artemiss ? it is herbal ,wont destroy your filter media ,and says it treats "bacterial dropsy" among other things. It is safe for plecs. HTH,

Re: L128 Blue Phantom
hi, since i have no experience in breeding plecs , i cant comment on the ratio, but you are working with a 75g tank, not sure how many L128's would be suitable and not cramped. I have read that it is good to have a few males so they have to show their best stuff for the females , obviously more fema...

Re: L128 Blue Phantom
hi, cant help you with the breeding, however i have 2 sub-adult L128's and can give you some info. They need high oxygen, so I dropped my water level 3" and have 2 HOBs',2 air stones and 2 hydra-sponge filters in that tank. Foodwise, you could ask the store what they are eating, but mine prefer ...

Re: L34 questions
hi guys, one more question about the L34 sexing. Tomorrow I will be picking up my male. Would it be reasonable to say that if both male and female are the same size , it would be easier to sex them ,or, as individuals, do they grow their bristles at a different rate, meaning same size L34's , one co...

Re: L34 questions
thanks for all the info everyone.
Larry, you mentioned secondhand breeding info, cold wc's, did the person mention how much of a cold wc ? and how often? I always set my water temp to tank temp to do wc's. I would be concerned if it was a large wc,obviously. Curious if you know. thanks,
Georgie

Re: L34 questions
great info MT, thanks. I have been setting up lots of rock and slate as hidey places. OK,sounds like i need to look for a different kind of tankmate rather than the bleeding hearts , appreciate.
Since a pair is a good fit for this tank , i will plan on that . thanks big time.

L34 questions
hi , my next planned purchase is a L34, medusa. I can't find much concerning their needs except on the catalog page,so wonder if anyone has this plec and would like to share any pertinent info . I have the tank set up and cycled , have natural gravel, rocks and slate. I assume some wood is necessary?...
