Re: Injured syno.

They are Synodontis Eupterus. Going by my guesses, I was sexing them based on which ones got fat. I wish I could have them photographed and have some expert sex them. Older trio Killington= male Stratton= female Mansfield= male Younger trio Glastenbury= female Ellen= female Abraham = ?. Si is in the...

Re: Injured syno.

I did take pictures with my phone, but the only way I know how to share them is by sending via phone number. I don't know how to hook up the phone to a computer. I doubt many people want to share their phone numbers with me over the internet. It was hard to decide if I should move the syno, the poss...

Re: Injured syno.

I treated the injured syno with bio bandage*, salt and melafix so far. I did get some Maroxy if it gets to that. The instructions for bio bandage said put the fish out on a net. I'm thinking OH dear...The syno flopping in net, getting caught in the net. So what I did is keep the syno in the bucket, ...

Re: Injured syno.

How bad does it have to be?. Basically it's like a white patch( seem like a shallow scraping type wound) on the side and what I thought might be a tuft of fungus in the center. I got some meds; nitrofurozone based meds ( 3 of them) and Kordan Ick attack. Could not find out if nitrofurozone is safe f...

I'm preparing to move this injured syno into a thirty gal sick tank because I think there's fungus on the wound today. Trying to get a better look while the sick tank 's temp adjusts.

Re: Injured syno.

I didn't rule out heater burns. Going by the looks of it, and given I've had heater burns on them in the past, I'm going to say it's probably not that.

A certain somebody has yet to compensate me for trashing my camera, so until this happens, I don't have a functioning camera.

Injured syno.

A little background here. One of my synos has barbel problems. This has happened before, but I had hoped it would no longer re-occur as I have a huge canister filter for them now. With the possible causes being dirty substrate and water quality problems, I've been removing and cleaning the substrate...

Re: Venturing into small synos.

Considering the big drawback with synos is their drab colors, a colorful syno. would be a nearly perfect fish. Okay...them are fightin words :d Just kidding...granted there are some plain drab looking syno's but there are also some that give the flashiest pleco a run...you are not looking at the ri...

Neat, I just found a "golden version" of mini syno. What size do you consider "mini" ? There is a Synodontis nigrita color variant that is commonly sold as Nigrita "gold" similar to this one but usually all gold http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/image.php?species=sy...

Venturing into small synos.

After a tank wipe out last week due to some electrical problems, I'm ready for a new fish group and am thinking of going with a trio of small synos. I will try to breed them, but I'm not counting on it( says the person with three 20 yr old synos who never bred *sighs*. Although I find synos adorable...

Re: Synodontis eupterus lifespan

Oldest synodontis I've heard of yet was 27 yrs old( possibly the one in this thread). My older Synodontis Eupterus trio is around 18-20 yrs old. I can only estimate because I don't recall exactly when I got them. My synodontis are named after mountains such as; Killington, Mansfield, Stratton, Glast...

Yeah they were both facing the same direction.
No attempts to curve over each other.

I guess it's most likely an aggression display then.

Do my synodontis eupterus want to breed?.

I should mention that their tank has had some serious water quality problems* that also almost killed one of them so maybe not?.. Maybe my efforts in clearing up this problem with daily water changes is triggering them to want to breed?. Or maybe having the fanciest most expensive filter I've ever r...

I put a FX5 on my syno tank because I wanted it over-filtered , replacing/upgrading the current filtration system due to difficulty with cleaning and replacing/upgrading a canister filter that stopped working. So fx5 is now the main filter for my 150 gal group of Synodontis Eupterus( hopefully event...

Re: Antibotic injection for sick synodontis?.

I'd be interesated what you call "medium sized" - i'd not risk an injection to any of my synos as there is the physical wound to consider & if there was a problem, isolation in a hospital tank with food impregnated with antibiotic would be my preference I was going by that since they ...

Filter media for syno tank.

Looking at options for filter media for a FX5 used on a 150 G synodontis tank. I have used the Fluval filter media that came with the kit for two of the baskets and that leaves one yet empty. I could add: - Nitrate removing media. - Peat granules to bring down the ph from 7.4 a bit. - Some more of t...

Antibotic injection for sick synodontis?.

First off, I am wondering for future reference, I do not have any synodontis with a bacterial infection currently. Do they have enough cover/caves to make them feel comfortable? I agree, it sounds like there aren't any other hiding spots, or aren't any other appropriate hiding spots. There are other hiding places for them. This one pot that they were all behind on that day does seem like a favorite spot for som...

Synodontis huddle/orgy?.

What does it means when a group of synodontis are piled up together?. I once found my group of six piled up behind a certain flower pot. I was confused about this issue as I wasn't sure if there was a bad batch or all of them were at risk. Marineland told me to return them if I want to. They seem like another nice choice.
You know, actually I didn't ask the breeder I know, I assumed they had that variety by looking at them myself. They may indeed have the other kind of syno since I've never seen them.
