Re: Newbie

Hi, Grandpa... uhh... wow! It's been a long time. Do the other beings around you have horns or wings? Heheheh. Couldn't pass that opportunity up. =)) Houston, eh? How do you stand the summers? Incredibly oppressive, muggy heat. Must escape to Air-Con immediately! Oh, the memories! My shirt always st...

Re: "Royal" identification?

As you will probably notice, many people have decided to bow out of trying to help ID royal panaque... especially juveniles. Between some of the subtle differences between known species/subspecies/phenotypes and the as of yet still unidentified species/subspecies/phenotypes, it is very hard to ID ro...

Re: coppersafe and catfish?

I don't think your catfish will have any problems with the coppersafe. I really only worry about invertebrates and algae (of course) when treating tanks with copper sulfate.

Re: Hurricane- Lose any fish?

Thankfully, the power at my house came back on yesterday PM. I learned that Harlequin Rasboras are much more sensitive to cold than Brass Tetras or Pearl Celestial Danios as all of the Rasboras died in one of my planted tanks but hardly any of the latter two died. My mbuna all seem to be alive, but ...

Re: Hurricane- Lose any fish?

m1ke715m, sorry to hear about your losses. Sounds like your house is a fish store! As a suggestion, I think it's best to not feed your fish while they are going through a power outage. When they are stressed, they are not going to be digesting their food effectively anyway... especially when the wat...

Re: Hurricane- Lose any fish?

We're on day 7 without power and the outside air temp went down to ~35 deg F last night. Luckily, no losses to report today. The fish in my 125gal riverine tank seem to be tolerating me adding the hot water 2x/day. Thankfully, my hot water heater is still working like a champ. I plan to keep adding ...

Here's a couple more pics of my neighborhood taken on Oct 30, 2012. In total, I counted 24 large trees down in little more than a 1/4 square mile: Deciduous tree and electric power line mayhem... http://i46.tinypic.com/311l8cp.jpg Conifers were not spared either... http://i48.tinypic.com/34t25bm.jpg

Re: Hurricane- Lose any fish?

MChambers, thanks for the link/info. We're on day 6 without power at my house. The outside air temp went down to ~37 deg F last night. Yesterday, I started to lose some of my Synodontis lucipinnis in my rift lake tank so I started to remove tank water and add water heated to near boiling on a campin...

Re: Hurricane- Lose any fish?

We are on day 4 without power. So far, no losses. Part of me ants to add some hot water (my family is boiling water for personal use over a camping stove and/or camp fire) to the tanks 2x/day to try to keep the temp up, but the other part of me doesn't want to subject the inhabitants of the tanks to...

Re: Aquariums and pet stores in New Jersey

Shark Aquarium in Hillside as mentioned above. Absolutely Fish in Clifton probably has a slightly better selection of L#'s. AquaScape Online in Belleville (call ahead to make sure someone will be there) is probably your best bet for L#'s--Pedro usually has a good deal in stock at any one time. Tropi...

Re: Finally! The fishing season!

In a bit, I'm off for a half-day of trout fishing in and around the pristine Rockaway and South Branch Raritan Rivers in Morris County, NJ. The NJDFW started their fall release on Oct 9. I believe they stocked the sections we're going to on the 11th. I'll bet there were a ton of anglers with their l...

Re: When to Worry??

Where did you buy the fish? If at your LFS, did you ask if it was eating? What are your water parameters (pH, temp, ammonia, at the very least)? What do you use for new tank water (tap, RO, rainwater, well water, etc.)? If it is a new import, it may take longer to begin eating. Its stomach already l...

Things have changed a lot since you were there. The main hall has gotten a total revamp, and we're just starting on our new Ocean Wonders project, which is giving us a very large shark tank with a walk-thru tunnel. Sweet. Two places I've requested we visit:
1. A fish market
2. A good LFS

I'm not sure we'll make it to either this time around. Our schedule is constantly squeezed by the protracted meals they like to have here.

Re: Catfish in Chengdu, China
