Re: How can I breed Corydoras Gossei
Very easy. Condition on live and frozen foods. Keep the tank warm (26 - 28 C). Weekly water changes of 50%. My water is very soft and the pH is about 6. They spawn on the glass and don't eat their eggs. Leave the eggs in the main tank to hatch and provide a fry shelter in the main tank for the fry t...

I'm not sure you have H. parva. They are known for laying eggs in the open rather than in a cave or tunnel. Also I don't see the characterictic interorbital gap on your fish.

Re: Sick Corys with spiny growths
I've seen this a few times. A big water change sees it off. I would get rid of the algae eater and start changing water weekly rather than monthly. Also if you are feeding white/Grindal worms then cut that back a bit. I wouldn't put any medication in the tank.

The small species (hastatus etc.) will spawn from around 6 months. Other than that 9 - 12 months seems to be typical with a few species keeping you waiting much longer.

The dangers of reconstructing evolution using mtDNA
The always readable Jerry Coyne has written his thoughts on the use of mtDNA versus nDNA when constructing family trees. He's discussing a paper on Polar bears which I freely admit are not catfish. However I thought it was a good piece and worth drawing to the attention of forum members. Read it here

These ones are always tricky.
We can rule out - brevi (brief or short), rostrum (snout or nose). Your fish all have a longish snout.
2nd & 3rd do seem to be .
The others I'm not sure - perhaps

Re: Permanent Dwarf cory breeding set up
Pygmaeus will breed rather easily in my experience and a colony can be maintained without much effort in a tank as small as 18". Habrosus require a little more work but I would still class them as easy. I wouldn't feed white worm to pygmaeus - it's too big for them. Small amounts might be okay ...

Re: 5th June 2012 - Image Captions page upgraded
Would be good if you could tag images? It would be good, and I've talked about it before but I'm darned if I can find where. My views were to be able to add tags like "spotted", "red" or "suckermouth" which would then aid species ID. What were you thinking about? Cheer...

Re: Better than L-Nos. (Shane made me do it)
You're a database guy Jools, you know data should be normalised. The L number is the unique identifier and must never change. All other data, origin, size etc. can and do change so must be kept separate. Some kind of on line catalogue would do the trick.
