Re: Let's talk space heaters

I use an oil-filled De Longhi heater. Mostly it's switched off and the heat from the lights/pump is enough though. This kind of thing? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0000BVBHJ/ref=asc_df_B0000BVBHJ6882179?smid=APNHB0KKIR2F6&tag=hydra0b-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22218&creativeASIN=B0000B...

Looks like if there are 2 pictures then there is an alignment issue. See as an example.

I've "successfully" killed Java moss by placing it in low pH tanks stained heavily with tannins. It grows fine in brackish water too btw.

Re: The role of diseases and beahvior?.

Some diseases can physically damage the fish without killing it causing it to modify its behaviour is some way for the rest of its life. Some examples might include blindness, loss of or damage to fins and barbels, fertility problems and damage to the nervous system.

Re: Cordyoras hastatus spawning success

My hasatus are in with crystal shrimps and plenty fry are produced. Leave a pile of ceramic noodles, broken crockery or large pebbles in a corner. The fry will escape the worst of the predation in there until they are big enough not to be eaten.

Re: BUG: Entering breeding report blanks some fields

I can't speak for everyone(obviously) but I more often than not set up a tank for the specific purpose of breeding. When the spawning is done the aquarium may well be put to another use and set up differently. In fact my tanks are in a constant state of flux with fish moving around and substrate/dec...

From what I've seen it's males who actively chase and nudge the female. If she's receptive she will mate with one of the attendant males.
