The dark bands tell you that he is stressed in some sort of way...if he carries them all the time its a warning sign that something in your tank is not to his liking i.e. temperature, tankmates, no ample hiding places etc.

If it comes from Xingu L47 is very likely and if not albino its a xanthorist.

I should add that I have kept these for almost 3 years now. Bought them at 4 cm and they now have around 10-12 cm tl.
You can actually see the difference quite good when you compare the head size also similar sized fish look quite different.

The 2 Eurofish is from the same LFS as the 2004 fish.
This LFS told me they never order Ancistrus all they have are from private breeders.
Ill go there and ask for the breeder these days..

Very unlikely that you have L98 as only 3 specimens were imported at the time...
Your fish could be L173 oder 174 and if they are the latter itd be a ripoff

Its also not a fresh import as it came from a private breeder...so maybe its an older strain not commonly imported...

Im still hoping to find a fitting female and see what the fry looks like.

Imo 80cm to 1 m is good reason enough not to keep it.
Theres a lot of smaller similar looking plecos around.
