Re: building a "big" Potamotrygon/SA Catfishes tank
I am not even in the same range of fish keeping as you guys, but I keep my 10 inch P. ornatus in a tank with some sailfins and a few clown loach rescues and so far (12 months) he has not touched any loaches, amazing fish who is gradually becoming more and more like a puppy with his excitemnt to see ...

Re: L-134 not breeding
I would have thought there would be better food to condition them too than beef and poultry protein sources. A good quality pellet/flake food perhaps would get the females prime for breeding. Also offer a variety of possible spawning sites.

Sorry Jools, I missed the 48 hours bit, this site keeps me sane on 12 hour shifts. At least I did get my post through.

When I was running the fishroom with 50+ tanks on 3 banks our bill was around $2500-$3500 a quarter season dependent (yes that's a sarcastic thumbs up)

Thanks fellas. I've done a lot of research regards the plywood tank builds & while its been really interesting & inspirational, its also left me a little confused. I'm wondering if its worth all work & the hassle, to eventually save what might be very little,in the end. Might do the sam...

Nice, the way I look at it if you put in the effort to either classify something or better still get out in the field and find something new you can call it whatever the hell you want.

I met a guy here (Sydney) who went on a collecting trip to the Amazon. Anything interesting he caught went to the US and Europe with other guys on his trip as we cant bring anything in. One of the things they caught was a royal type panaque in reasonable numbers on wood and on any fallen branches, u...

Re: panaque nigro spawning ??
I read an online "account" of a nigrolineatus spawn.
Apparently the fish hollowed out a nest in dense collapsed val or some similar plant.

L243 vs L202
I am looking at getting a male/female pair of what has been described as L243. I have looked at the photos in the Cat-eLog and I realise they are similar and I was wondering if anyone has a method of telling L243 from L202 . I will most likely get them regardless and post some photos for the more in...

Don't get too stressed mate, remember this is an international forum and folks work too, that means that not everyone will see your posts in a time frame that may seem reasonable to you for comment. For me personally I can not load you tube at work, so I have to wait another few hours until I get ho...

Re: Tankmates for L002
I feed a pretty mixed diet of flake, pellets, algae wafers and fresh veges. I also have plenty of wood for the panaques and most of the others graze off the wood also. I have never been over cautious of feeding protein to any of my fish as I figure they can find it in the wild, I just ensure that it...

Re: Tankmates for L002
Hi Jesse, I have and breeding together in the same tank.
In fact most of my tanks house a Panaque, Peckoltia and Hypancistrus combination of some type. It allows me to maximise the species I keep and breed and not run the risk of hybrids.

A tandanus tandanus when I was 5-ish, so 1983. I caught it in Lake Glenbawn "Glenbawn Dam" and insisted my Dad let me cart it the 3 1/2hrs and 290klms home and it lived in an old livestock water trough until I got my first real fish tank. Thanks to that one individual fish I have never bee...

I feed my small and relatively common species of cories a 1mm pellet and some of the grow formula from the same company. They seem to manage it quite well.

Re: Missed the spawn and lost all.
I picked up a group of 10 about 3 weeks ago. 4 females and 6 males and to my surprise there are spawns every 4-5 days of various sizes. I always lose them to the tetras and discus too.
Good luck with getting some fry out of them.

Re: wood for L-numbers
I use mangrove wood that I collect and soak for long periods of time. It is usually riddled with marine borer holes and is physically "soft". It does put quite a bit of tannin in the water but my panaques love to chew right into it and all my other cats graze off it quite a bit.

All good mate, the joys of an international forum. No harm, no foul
The pic I have shows one of the wrigglers looking well, like a wriggler, then to the right is the conjoined one, "Zaphod". I am trying a few ways to get the pic on here.

I dont use any chemicals, so it is just a random mutation.
I will try my best to get a pic this afternoon, at the moment the little guy is just on 1cm and I dont want to shift him/her about too much as I am curious as to how development will progress.
