Re: Pier Aquatics Trip 30/12/2012
Dave - sorry I didn't notice but if you contact the shop and ask for Neil the owner I'm sure he will check for you.
mds - I got 2 but they weren't very good images so I deleted them. They were coloured up lovely. The males had golden flecks on the head.

Pier Aquatics Trip 30/12/2012
Took a trip to Pier Aquatics in Wigan today. As usualy some cracking fish. Pier are currently the only shop in the UK that I know of that has CW073 and C124. They also had some lovely looking L097 and L082 (all L082 sold)! http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r126/TheDarkOne_photo/PseudacanthicusL097....

The 2 Spinipterus 'Otorongo' I got I picked them out thinking they were an immature pair. It's looking like I could be right!

Re: Erethistoides infuscatus
I don't think the colouration is a dietary thing. Of about 7 erethistins I or my friend has kept the reddish ones have been ever present. I think it is sexual.

No IMO. The black one is female, the reddish one possibly a young male.

It looks like the one we know in the hobby as iheringi, although there is some debate about whether that is the correct name to use.

You are welcome Bas Pels
Erlend - from what I can see of the maxillary barbels, yes I would say it is O. punctata.

Re: offered as Ossancora punctata
They look like O. punctata to me. The dark colour of the body and horizontal bars in the tail and spots on the flanks look like O. punctata. To be 100% sure would need to get a good look at the extensions on the maxillary barbels. Here is one in a dark setting.

Re: Cory identification needed. Thank you in advance.
I don't think it is leucomelas or adolfoi. IMO it is either melanistius or a female brevisrostris. hard to tell as caudal is damaged.

Re: info on Caelatoglanis Zonatus
Hi Well done for getting some. To my knowledge they had only been imported once previously to the UK (by Pier Aquatics in Wigan). I know 2 people who have lept them successfully, one being a member of Planet Catfish (medaka). have a look at his website page for them: http://www.asiancatfish.com/page...

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
I've looked at the photographs again and I think they are all of the undescribed species. I've used there alleged locality info, position of adipose fin, dorsolateral body pattern, pectoral fin spines.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Thanks Jools. It is hard to say 100% based on the pics in the clog. Marc's fish might have had the same origin as my first lot (which now look like are one of the undescribed sp instead of acsi ) but I cannot be 100% sure. If I had to I would say all the ones in the clog are the undescribed one but ...

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
I can't reveal the locality details but all will make sense when it comes out ;o) Why all the mystery? :?: Because when someone tells you they are describing something and they give you the locality details, it isn't the done thing to pass the locality details onto others, without permission. Some ...

I've corresponded with Alberto Akama and he agrees that the ones in my Scotcat link are not acsi, but look like the one he is describing at the moment. I can't reveal the locality details but all will make sense when it comes out ;o)

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Thanks guys. Out of the 4 I got this time only 1 is female. Yes, there are 2 or 3 undescribed species. One is the Otorongo, and there is at least 1 or 2 others that are being worked on. As well as the head plates being different between these ones Ive got now and the other ones the adipose fin is di...

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
What size are they now Steve? The 4 S. acsi I bought are showing some quite interesting growth/sexual maturity. I bought 4 at about 3.5cm TL. None of them had any obvious external sexual dimorphism but based on body width I hoped that I'd got 3 females and 1 male. I now have 1 male that has outgrow...

This fish has been posted before: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=36733 It is not H. Contradens, bodyshape and headshape does not compare with Hypancistrus contradens I think it could be L136c Hypancistrus sp(l136c) I don't agree. I think it matches contradens much more ...

I agree that I think the first is Panaqolus albomaculatus, looking at the mouth of the second one I would say it is a Hypancistrus so could be H. contradens

Re: Panaque bathyphilus
No, that's what I said. That it appears to have been listed in what is now accepted as Panaqolus , but what Acanthicus and I are saying is that it does not seem to make sense because just one look at the fish would lead you to consider that it is closely related to Panaque (larger bodied etc). Howev...
